Mike, Thank you so much for your help! Here's my version. I found a compact power supply at a second-hand store for $2.00. Cool thing, all the wires are nicely labeled on the board The first picture shows the basic setup you need. 1. 2 X 1 Omh 10 Watt Resistors - Used to creat the load for 12V 2. Green Power-On wire - This needs to be grounded in order for the power supply to turn on 3. Some power supplies have a sensor cable. In this case there are two, one black (-), and one orange (+). Each had to be paired-up with a wire of the same color (See picture 2). *If you're wondering why it looks like the black sensor cable is connected to the green wire, it is because the green wire ALSO has to be grounded so I just thought I'd get two birds with one stone... 4. Red Wire = 5V 5. Black Wire = Ground 6. Yello Wire = 12V 7. Fan Pictures 3 and 4 show the power output. YLW + BLK = 12V. RED + BLK = 5V Last edited by therealhiphop; 05-18-2007 at 10:32 PM. |

Nice thread! My school gave me a 100 watt supply to keep. I know it's small, but I'm only using it with my little E-Flite charger, that's it. So what I did was first cut all of the wires but 1 yellow and 1 black. I soldered the green wire directly to ground, there-by eliminating a switch. I didn't need a resistor, because I hae a fan as a load. I had some spare binding posts from another project, so this build didn't cost me anything. Very nice! The next one I do will be the one mentioned in the beginning of this thread. Here's some pics:

I do have one question though, im reading around 11VDC instead of around 12VDC. Any ideas why? again, green wire soldered to ground, didn't need a resistor, it powers up on its own, and 1 yellow and 1 black wire for 12vdc output. EDIT: I forgot to say that it shows 10.98VDC while im using the charger, but with nothing attached on the binding posts it reads 11.23V, still it seems like i should be getting more? Thanks again!

I am not new to the game, but I would like to know the benefits of having one of these. I use the sirius brand chargers, I have two of the pros and was wondering if it would help to have one of these power supplies. I am up for helping a fellow giant sell a great product.
