Capacitors have polarity indicated on the wrapping. When I say 12V rail, I mean any of the 12V wires will work. Put a black wire on the Negative end of the cap, and a yellow wire on the positive end of the cap. Works like a charm. 1 1000UF cap wasn't enough, so I used two and that worked great.

One other thing that I 've done to increase the standing voltage of PS from the low 12's to just under 13 volts was to wire (2) 1 ohm 10 W resistors in series instead of using (1) 10 ohm 10 W resistor. A word of caution though, they get pretty hot so make sure you put them by the fan to cool them down.

heydick,
so instead of the one sandbar i would replace it with to in line to increase power output.mine is also in the low 12's and i would like it a bit higher

Yeah Ron, two sandbars of 1 Ohm 10 W each in series. I was searching the web and came across this mod to increase the voltage. The guy explained why but I can't remember, all I know is that it works. BTW, my PS is 650W.

My OFNA 18 amp variable power supply just went POOF!!!

Second power supply I've toastedin the last year, and 3 times as expensive as using the one listed in this thread.

Guess what I'm doing next week. . . . .

Mike,

Thanks Dude for starting this thread, I hadn't heard about it until today.
While at the field today I was talking with a few pilots about needing a power source for my cube so I didn't have to keep a battery in the shop for it. One of the guys told me about this thread so I had to check it out. Being in the IT field myself it wasn't hard to come up with a good power supply, I have already got everything on the power supply ready so I can hit Radio Shack in the morning to get the resistors and plugs. Thanks a million you have laid it out so well I don't think I will have any problem building it.

Two weekends ago I made myself a P/S. Got to use it over the weekend and it worked great for my ION^3 and Triton foamy flying.

My only regret is that I didn't make one when the thread first started.....
