Warren this is not a model power supply. This is a computer power supply that has been modified for model power supply use. Here is a link with a part number http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=A107-2000

Mike, Just wanted to pipe up and tell you all what a great thread this is. My dad tried this years ago and couldn't get it to work, back then the power was too little, not enough Amps he said - so he stayed with his little field 12V batts. Anyway, I sent him this thread to say the least. Also, I went on eBay and found the exact same Apevia 500W PS that you used, got it for $15. I'm going to Radio Shack this AM...

Excellent walkthru. I just ordered the same powersupply. Always good to have around the house.

Mike, thanks for a great PS project.

i worry a bit about using the 5 volt rail for receivers. how well regulated is it, and how well filtered (DC) is it? a bit of a voltage spike could damage a receiver, unnoticeably at first...

That's why I never really tried it. I was afraid to ruin something. I wasn't really sure if it would work or not. I mean, I know 5V will power the plane, but we'll see...

You can't get a much cleaner voltage than a computer power supply.
