Ok guys I am slowly starting to build my UZI XXL. I am still waiting on some gear to arrive so its going to be a slow process but I am going to take my time and enjoy the build. Warning to all that will be following this thread... I am not a plane builder, lol I am the new generation...ARF guys ![]() First off the plane arrived from Hobby Lobby undamaged and was doubled boxed. Since it is getting pretty darn hot here in South Louisiana I am going to be building this on the kitchen table(wife thinks I am nuts for building a foam plane that cost as much as most of my glow planes). My work shop has to be 100+ degrees all day lately. Here are a few pics ... ![]() A stack of foam, lol More pics of the pieces as the build continues ![]() Hardware minus the landing gear |

Not having my motor yet(Hacker A30 16M) I started to play with the landing gear. I could not figure out what the picture was showing in the manual. I stuck it together just trying to figure out how the landing gear wire secures the wheel pants. I am thinking of just using goop to secure the wire to the pants. ![]() ![]() |

I started digging through my RC stuff( I have been out of the hobby for over a year and have moved since then) and found some carbon rods from some of my old fancy foam models. Do you think these could be used in the wings and fuse? Last edited by ronniemlrc; 06-09-2007 at 11:06 AM. Reason: added pic |

Here are a few pics of the rudder and elevators. I included a picture of the instructions, as you can see there is only pictures showing you what to do. Since I never worked with EPP and Goop before I am going to test glue a small piece to get an idea of how it is to work with. ![]() |

I have to say that working with the epp and goop is pretty easy. I added the pieces to the rudder and elevators and the goop is some pretty easy stuff to work with. Heydick...what size carbon ribbon did you use on the wings and fuse and do you know of an online store to get them from??? The more I look at it, the rods I have are not going to do what I want. Did you use goop, CA, or expoxy on the CF? My son really wants to paint this plane so I am trying to come up with a simple scheme(I do not have an artistic bone in my body), if anyone has some ideas I am more than open to them. |

Thanks for the tip Mike. I might not put the gear on at all. The field across the street from our house is rough. Plus this plane is going to be teaching my son to hover and 3d and teaching me rolling harriers so I can promise it will be getting put to the test

Did you put CF in the wings and fuse? If so what size and did you use CF rods or flat strips? After gluing the top wing together today I am for sure going to add some CF to stiffin it up a bit. |

I used the Avia Sport Carbon Strip Thickness 0.034" x Width 0.121" x Length 40" from RCFoam.com for my spars and fuse. Put one down each side of the fuse to just under the tail, one on top and bottom of top wing and one across the bottom of bottom wing and fuse. Really make it stiff! I talked with Heydick quite a bit when building mine and got a lot of good feedback and I'm having a blast with it. I chose to use the LG to help save props, if it wasn't for that I'd leave it off and have an even lighter wingloading. If you need any pics or advise please don't hesitate to ask! |
