Default 3D Hobby Shop - 47" Velox Revolution

Hey Fellas,

Ben just got in the first shipment of the new 47" Velox Revolution electric parkflyer. I did much of the development on this new airplane so my opinion may be biased, but we've really pulled out all of the stops on this design.

From www.3dhobbyshop.com

"Get ready for the Velox. After the 47" SHP re-defined 3D parkflying, we knew we needed to develop something really special. We chose the Velox Revolution 1, a high performance single-seat aerobatic monoplane. Developer Scott Stoops gave the 47" Velox an extremely high-performance aerobatic wing, incorporating semi-scale side-force generators. A fully airfoiled tail gives the Velox extreme control authority. All the good stuff is here: Carbon wing spar tube, removable wings, pre-installed hinges, phenolic control horns, ball-link control hardware, spring-loaded canopy latch, pre-installed canopy bubble, glossy painted fiberglass cowl and wheel pants, carbon fiber gear legs...and the list goes on. "

  • Wingspan: 47 inches
  • Wing Area: 450 square inches
  • Weight: 38-43 ounces

The Velox has extremely stable hover and solid harrier performance upright and inverted. Easy knife-edge with minimal coupling and solid high-speed tracking are designed in, as well as outstanding, amazing tumbling ability.

HS-65 servos are recommended in all 4 servo locations, and drop right into the pre-cut holes.

The lightweight setup is a Torque 2818T-900 motor, 3S 2000-2200 20C pack, APC 13x6.5e prop - great for a floaty, light feel and close-in flying. Other good motor choices for light setups are Hacker A30-16M, EFlight Power 10, Axi 2814.

The high-power setup is a Torque 2814T-820, 4S 2200 20C pack, APC 12x6e prop - great 3D but also lots of speed. Awesome setup with serious power.

So with the specs out of the way, let's get started on the build...

OK. Here we go. Each model is triple boxed to ensure the minimum chance of the shipping goons doing damage to them!

The hardware package includes:

carbon landing gear legs
dedicated axles (no screws axle here)
slotted fiberglass wheel pants
control hardware
ball links (yes ball links on a 47" airplane!)
phenolic control horns
wheels
wheel collars
velcro battery strap
tailwheel and tailwheel bracket
landing gear and motor mount hardware

A very complete package. All you need to provide is your radio set, power set, prop, servo extensions, and an optional spinner

All unpacked. Note that the top mounted hatch has not only magnets, but also a mechanical hatch. Like all 3D Hobby Shop models, the CA hinges are pre-glued in one surface, so all you have to do is mate the two surfaces, align appropriately, and glue. No more T-pins to center the hinge!

The bottom of the airplane is covered in a transparent blue (or red if you choose the red version)

Initial assembly step is to glue the ailerons to each wing. The hinges are already installed and glued on the aileron side, so simply line up the aileron and hit it with two drops of thin CA per hinge. The Velox has wingtip mounted SFG's, so you need to ensure the aileron is not flush with the tip, but slightly recessed allowing clearance from the SFG. The manual recommends first mounting the SFG and using that as an alignment guide, which is a great idea.

Flex the hinges and hit the bottom of each hinge with thin CA as well.

While the wing is upside down, I used my soldering iron to remove the covering over both the servo pocket and the aileron control horn slot.

Install the aileron servo and secured 6" extension in the wing with the included servo screws. We highly recommend the Hitec HS-65 servo in this model.

The control horns are phenolic and fit perfectly into the built up slots in each control surface. I preload each slot with medium CA, slide the phenolic horn in, followed by thin CA.
