Hi, My name is Barry and I have been thinking of posting a build thread on here. I have already gotten started but I will show you where I'm at now. This F4U-5N Corsair will have a three piece wing, Sierra retracts, inflatable 7 1/2" scale aluminum wheels made by Darrel Tenny at Sierra. Powered by a DA-170 swinging a 4 blade Solo prop, size to be determined. This Ziroli plan has been highly modified from Nick's original plans to make it a 5N instead of a 1A. Here are some pic's. Any help will be appreciated. The plans were blown up 33.3% Barry www.canopyrailsforwarbirds.com If this thread is in the wrong place please place it correctly and email me so I know where to find it to continue!

nice, more pics please. plane of this caliber needs a big radial engine. Contact Troy Built Models for good radial multi-cylinder engine. Moki 250cc would look good.

Thank for all the nice comments. One of the greatest kit cutters anywhere helped me modify and cut this kit. His name is Pat Fallacaro and he owns and operates Laser Cut USA in Florida. I never will use anybody but him. I will post some more pic's now and then when I get the rest of the kit and resume building I will post daily if I do anything. I am waiting for Pat to do the final modification to the outer wing panels so I can use aluminum wing joiners and dowels for a strong connection. They will connect just outside the middle flap on the center section. I'm having to modify the only ones I could get to beef them up enough for this size Corsair. The 3 box channels on each side of the wing will be welded together and end up 9" long. The aluminum spar that stays attached to the outer panels will go into 4 ribs which is 10+ inches. It will slide into the receiving box channel and I'm using allen head bolts drilled and tapped in the bottom of the receiver to tighten up against the spar. I'm not sure what size to make them yet. I will tighten up the bolts and then make notches for the bolts to tighten up into. There will be a 5'8" dowel at the LE and TE to keep the wing from twisting witrh additions bolts going thru the connection ribs for extra security. The bolts for tightening up the spar will be accessed thru the wheel well bays. They will be hidden when in flight when the gear doors are shut. So for now I'm waiting on a friend who works at a CNC shop to make my spars and for the outer panels to arrive. In the mean time I am trying to select an engine. Radials are nice but they need to much maint. That doesn't mean I 'm definitly not going to get one.

Mode 1, No offence taken, I'm new to the site and was just trying different fonts. I will tone it down because to be honest it irritated me too. Now I need to go one size smaller. Hows this font? ![]() Barry
