Default Spins -- Final Chapter

While at the Bakersfield IMAC contest this weekend, believe it or not, some of us had extensive discussions regarding spins.

We didn't know it at the time, but we all probably learned the "perfect" spin at the age of three or four.

And the answer is in four words:

STOP, DROP AND ROLL!

So there you have it.

Only three more. I won Phoenix too. But I looked at my IMAC scheduling calendar and noticed I can only fly two more contests this year. Even if I win those two, which is going to be really tough with the competitors that I watched fly this weekend, that only would give me four. I guess I'll just have to try harder next year.

I did the "Stop, Drop and Roll" technique.....got 8-9's on all my spins but one.

That one I wasn't stopped and didn't drop, but I sure did roll (ZERO BABY). I had never done a spin so far down before and got confused in the unknown....cost me beating ole' Sportsman forever.

I thought for sure I was going to blow mine in the Unknown. They had us leaving an end box humpty x box outbound then 1 1/2 pos snap, push 1/2 loop with 1 1/2 neg snap at the top and then 1 3/4 spin x box coming in. It hurts just to write it.

As promised in the OTHER spin thread. I have uploaded a video of "Spins"

http://www.flyinggiants.com/gallery/...500&ppuser=517

Comments are welcome.

It's 18 minutes long, but covers just about everything except reversing spin direction after a break in the wrong direction.

Kris - that's nowhere as bad as I was afraid it might be

The "stall stalling turning turn" is called an autorotation...

You are saying that a nose and wing not dropping at the same time "should be technically zero". The Scale Aerobatics rulebook is very clear on this.

Quote:
When the aircraft stalls, the nose will fall and at the same time the wing tip will drop in the direction of the spin. Failure to achieve this should be considered a “forced entry” and downgraded 0.5 points per 5 degrees of deviation.

So there it is from horses mouth - it's a deduction, not a zero.

I'm not sure if you are trying to instruct people to either release or use down elevator during autorotation. All of those attempts look like zeros in my book, because you stopped autorotation way prior (more than 90° of rotation) to exit of the spin. Gotta love that downline lomcovak/knife edge spin ! I hope you are showing all of that as part of things of what NOT to do !

I have to agree that the first 3 or 4 spins are picture perfect. After that, most common problems are very nicely demonstrated !!

P.S.
I was hoping to see the sudden 180° weathervaning phenomenen on the downwind spins, but instead I heard you saying you have to actively "use rudder" to correct the flight path on the cross wind entry !!! What a disappointment
