There is going to be an IMAC competition about an hour from me here in about a month. I'm wanting to just give it a shot for fun, but am wondering what all I need to do to get registered. I went to the IMAC site and registered on the website, but when I try to download the membership form to mail in, the page cannot be found. I just want to compete in the basic class, as my plane of choice for precision for now due to lack of anything bigger is my Airfoilz Edge. Any help? Thanks, Ryan

You do not have to be an IMAC member to fly in an IMAC contest. Just an AMA member. You can fly any plane you wish in Basic as well. Go, have fun, and learn what you can to see if competition is for you!!

As Judge stated, you can fly anything you have in the Basic class. You should go and give it a try, but don't put pressure on yourself. Just do your best and most of all have fun with it. If you can, find some of your local fliers that either have or do fly IMAC to give you a hand. Flying with friends is what it is all about.

Ryguy, No one really answered your initial question about registration. With most contests you just show up and register that morning. Some contests have pre-registration however it really isn't imperative that you pre-register. Good luck to you and have fun!!! Marian |

I really have to argue with you here......pre-registration from the Contest Directors point of view is very important...... this is how we setup flight lines, flight order, freq conflicts, judging order, scribe order, pre-purchase trophies, use the pre-registered numbers to assist in getting prizes and food. Of course you don't need to pre-pay but pre register is always a GOOD IDEA How is any of that "not imperative"????? | ||||||||||||||||||

It is not imperative because it isn't a rule. In our region, pre-registration is not really available for most of our contests therefore people show up, register and the CD figures out the flight order, flight lines and judging on the spot. Because we are all adults, freqency conflicts are typically worked out between the pilots who are on the same channel. As far as trophies are concerned, the CD typically orders three trophies for the top three spots in each class. Things may be different in your regions and I wasn't trying to start an argument here, just offering a little advice to someone starting out. Marian |

Pre-registration has made my CD experience easier. So far both contests I have run have had over 50 pilots and trying to eliminate conflicts and create the judging matrix is much easier to do before hand. Saturday morning wouldn't start until around 10:00 if I had to do it on the fly at the field.
