There's big money involved. No thanks, if you can't play by your own rules then you can play be yourself.

I'm sorry you feel that way, but rules change all the time, it happens in every sport and every way of life, maybe it is different where you fly, but I understand that this is a new event and it's going to go through some growing pains.

Sweatpea, you are correct we should inform everyone on the IMAC site or on the event flyers of the intentions of the CD on what items will differ from the norm and I think some do.

It is very simple, read the OFFICIAL IMAC Scale Aerobatics Rule, Flying, and Judging Guide handed out at this years judging school. Also sold at Joe Nall this year at the Imac booth Thanks to Phill & Ronda and a big thanks to Stan & Nora for the tent space. All we need to do is ENFORCE the rules as they are written.
A three day or more event is covered in this book on page 2 of 7 in the contest standards guide section. I have many frends in this sport and do not want to offend anyone. But the rules must be enforced or it won't be a good and fair sport to everybody envolved.
Craig, I know you can relate to this!!! LOL

Just for discussion about unknowns etc, etc,,,,, alot of talk and discussion has gone back to having fun, ,, I believe that handing the unknowns out on the morning of "unknowns" would be great,,, it would take alot of stress away,, , you could fellowship and have more fun the night before unknowns,, I have seen several people get there unknowns and studystudystudy at night,, I have been flying basic class the previous year, the contest I have gone to ,, I have had fun ,,that is what is all about, when I move up to sportsman next year I would really love to continue having ALOT of fun at a weekend contest, instead of studying all night,, I realize somebody is thinking well you dont' have to study that night, you can party and study the next morning,, but I really don't want to havve that decision I would rather everyone get them the same morning, and have the same advantage,, anyway just some thoughts on the unknown deal

What you have is a guide (see suggestion to running a contest) and a rule that encompasses both the guide and rules by stating either the day prior or the day of. Basically AMA is saying that you "should" do the day prior to give the less experienced pilots a chance to visualize longer. The rule says no more than one day prior and can be the day of.
.
I don't see where that rule in the AMA guide states you "should" do the day prior. How did you arrive at that assumption? If one guide states that it must be handed out the day before and the other gives choice, isn't that inconsistent?

Don, Thanks for providing clarity and finality to this discussion. Sometimes leadership means making difficult and unpopular decisions.

Obviously there exists a conflict between the AMA Rulebook and the IMAC Official Contest Standards concerning the unknowns. Hopefully we can pursue changes to either document to bring them in line. There's no ambiguity however in the statement "A valid IMAC contest will consist of the following" for the other requirements.

I have a great deal of respect for the people who created and now maintain the competition rules for IMAC. It's a tough job for anyone, and even tougher for those who have to enforce them. Let's remember that the point is to make our competitions not only fun but fair for all of us that have a great deal of time, effort, and friendships invested in this organization.

Chris

It seems like you can certainly hand out unknowns the day of and still be an IMAC contest. But if you want the points to count for regional standings then you must follow the IMAC Contest Guide. That means hand them out the day before or get a waiver/put it in the sanction. Those have to be approved by the AMA or IMAC board.

There really is no contradiction between the rules and the guide. You must follow the rules, you may follow the guide, but you must follow both for the regional points to count.

This verbiage opens up the IMAC guide to anything as long as it gets approved by the AMA or IMAC board.

"3. The contest must be run in accordance with the current AMA rulebook for Scale
Aerobatic events. Waivers as approved by the AMA or IMAC Board are allowed.

4. Deviations and Waivers must be published in advance. The preferred method is as
part of the sanction. However, in no case should any deviation or waiver be
published less than 30 days prior to the date of the event."
