The other option.. If a pilot flies in an IMAC contest, he or she MUST be an IMAC member, period. That would take care of most of the issues that have been identified in this thread.

If you want to fly in an IMAC event I think you should have to join IMAC, period, any class, no exceptions. Just my 2¢

That's actually a good question. I actually think it shouldn't matter what class you fly. Particularly in Basic, as far as IMAC members are concerned, there are rules in place that keep a person in the basic class from "dominating" the class - a very important aspect, IMO, as it will keep from discouraging other basic guys. After a basic guy "places well" in a certain number of contests, he has to move up. If he is not a member, I don't know if that rule can be enforced, in which case he can continue to dominate (I may be wrong here). Here in AZ, at the inaugural IMAC event (Superstition), I think they charged $30 for IMAC members, and $50 for non. But the extra $20, instead of being a "penalty" for not being an IMAC member, was used to get that competitor his membership. |

I would support allowing a first time contestant to be exempt from the IMAC membership requirement. The main purpose of the basic class is to give R/C flyers a taste of an IMAC contest to see if IMAC is something they wish to pursue. We should make it as easy to participate in as possible for a new participant. It is our future after all! I also support all other pilots (including basic class pilots that have flown in a contest previously) being required to join IMAC. IMAC needs the full support of all of those that enjoy the contest experience. Just one member's view. Mike R. Intermediate Class S.E.Region

I think mike said it all. basic is mostly made up of new people. We should have a way for people to come and try IMAC to see if they like it or not. I think this would help membership all the way around, we would have a way for people to try a few contest and then join, and all so get the membership as people move out of basic. You can still have a reduced contest fee for this class. Josh

Nick, here in Colorado we alwais had $5.00 discount to IMAC mambers at every contest. few years back we had six IMAC contests here in season. Going to four contests will save you $20.00 that's your IMAC yearly membership. But I don't look at it that way I will pay my IMAC dues discount or not. I think my $20.00 goes to operation of organization I like. Yes I do not agree with everything, but name organization where every member agree with everything. Like I agree that people to fly in IMAC competition should be IMAC members. But this is also AMA isue. Zee |

Josh, Basic class is hornet nest. On one side you have the argument that we should charge less entry fee for basic class. Now what about limiting Basic class to 80" wing span airplane? The way we look at basic class, try it class, beginers in Scale Aerobatics. 40% plane in Basic class, do you think that guy that is flying 35-40% airplane in Basic class reallly need that $20,00 in membership fee, or $10.00 Basic Pilot discount on contest entry fee? Zee, I see your point, but there are all so the guys that show up with the 40 size stick and bet the crap out of the guy with the 40%. I just dont want to see us loose members because we dont have a way for people to come and try IMAC. But if a guy has a 40% he should be able to pay his dues. We just need to have a good starting point and I think this would work for all sides. Josh |

Josh, we have it now, you don't need to be member to fly in contest any class. and in Basic you can try to beat the guy with 40% plane, with .40 stick. :-) ( my son flew first two or three IMAC contests with .40 size Hangar 9 Easy fly 40 trainer) Zee |

Yes, and because you're not a member you can continue to do it for 5-10 years. LOL
