Well, hopefully this year no one will experience this bad practice! Anyone who joins late and reclaims points prior to membership is unlawful! This should not be allowed to happen. ![]() I am pretty sure that this year's rules state you must be a member of IMAC to earn points and privious points will not count prior to memebership. This should not be an issue this year, so everyone get out there and win! BH |

Thanks for all the help. It appears that you DO NOT get points for beating non-IMAC members. SW guys might want to re-look at their points, because they most certainly have changed in the past week now that the glitch in the system has been fixed.

I believe you GET points for beating any pilot in your class if YOU are an IMAC member even if they are not. The only way you don't get points is if YOU are not an IMAC member.

However, that is definitely not the case in the southwest regional points as it stands right now. I will not be able to compete in our regionals championship do to other obligations that weekend, so it might not matter for me. But if the number of competitors you beat is taken into account for TAS qualifying, then this is important for me. The reason I saw a problem with it is that, for a given region, there may be a more dense population of IMAC members in one state than another, yet each state might still end up having about the same contestants per event. In this case, the guy that happens to live in and compete in the higher population of IMAC members would be able to place higher in the regionals even if he placed lower, overall, in all his prior contests than the IMAC member that tends to compete against non-IMAC members...

Guy here is a link to how the new rules are supposed to be for all of IMAC. For the regional points race. http://www.mini-iac.com/DesktopDefault.aspx?tabid=58 I personally dont like it, this is what IMAC as a whole is going with this year. Josh |

That's the information that I am going on, in the link you provided. However, it doesn't say anywhere that the contestants that you beat need to be an IMAC member in order to earn the 5 points each, only that anyone wishing to qualify for regional points needs to be an IMAC member. Then, if you go by AMA rules, anyone with an AMA membership must be allowed to compete at our contests, even if they are not IMAC members. In my view, this means that they must be counted as contestants in their respective classes. |

Here's another scenario: What if a non-IMAC member wins in your class and you place second to them - do you get 1,000 points or 978 points? What does third place get? |

I guess there is more to it than the rules apply, and I am way beyond my pay grade, lol! In looking at the most recent contest, where a non-IMAC flier placed second, the third place contestant got like 983.61 points, and the 4th place guy got 977.87 points - WTF??? I don't get it, I guess. I got a pretty good explanation on the phone about some of this stuff last night, and in the end I am just here for the fun, but I want to make sure we are all scored properly

I think this is the best point system we have had since I have been flying IMAC the past 6 yrs. I haven't seen what I would call judging bias in our region (SC) but if a judge misses part of a maneuver and gives benefit of doubt, in a tight race, 1 contestant could get twice as many points as another in last years scenario. As opposed to accepting the fact that there is a human element involved in judging and having the regional points divided up based on comparison of the pilots performance is simply the best way to not lose sight of that comparison. In the new system your points actually represent how you flew compared to that of the competition and it also gives a good measuring stick on how pilots are doing compared to one another which was completely lost in last years point system. just my $.02 John |
