Default IMAC Points???

So I guess I am a little confused here. My understanding was that you get so many points for how you place in a contest, and 5 points for every person you beat, right? Or is it only for every IMAC member you beat? Seems to me that if a guy enters a contest and gets scored by the same judges as you, then he should count as a contestant, right?
You'll have to forgive me - I'm new to this stuff. I read a lot of the rules and processes, but I don't remember reading anywhere that said a contestant had to be an IMAC member to be counted as a contestant - Obviously, they themselves wouldn't earn any points, but if an IMAC member places higher than them, the IMAC member should get 5 points for it, no?

Thats the way I interpret it, that if you beat them, you get the points. Then again, I never realy followed it that closely... perhaps i should have, I missed the championship last year by 6 total points! Damn that was a close race!!!!

Nick,

You are correct, if you beat them you will get 5 points. If they are not IMAC you still get the points. Need to keep on top of the points and notifiy them if there is a problem!

Good Job at the Tucson IMAC!!

Bill,
I thought you had to be an IMAC member to fly in an IMAC contest. You don't? I'm going to try a little of this flying this season also. I'm sure I'll set a world record for negative points standing in the sportsman class! LOL!

No, you don't need to be a member but if you're not, you cannot participate in the regional point system. Plus, most contests will charge a non-imac member about and extra $5 or $10 bucks in contest fees.

My recommendation is if you plan to fly at a few contests, just join. It's well worth the the $20.

You can even register on line or send in via snail mail.

Not 100% the same thing but we had a deal last year in NC that turned out differently than I would have thought..

Several people flew at contests prior to joining IMAC. In some cases as many as 3 -5 contest prior to having IMAC membership.
They eventually joined and then were given credit in the points race for ALL of the contests that they had flown that year. Membership or not.
I didnt think that was right.

We had a similar situation a few years ago in pattern. A guy that was flying Sportsman flew in a few contests that year, and during the Championship contest he found out that he had a very good chance at winning the Championship. At that time he decided to join the NSRCA so that his points would count. The district VP at the time allowed this and the individual ended up winning the Championship. I didn't think that was right. If I flew in that class and got bumped by that individual I would have been pissed.

If you are not an IMAC member then you do not earn points, period. Once you join, any points earned AFTER you join would count but not prior to joining. This is the only fair way to have a point serries race. This is why it is always good to renew your IMAC membership. If you fly 2 or more contest, you have already paid for your membership (usaually IMAC members pay $5-10.00 less than non IMAC members for each contest) as AMA requires that IMAC contest directors charge less for IMAC members. This is one advantage of being members.

Completely agree.

Not how it worked last year in North Central though.

I agree as well. Wayne, it worked the same way you mentioned in the NE region last year as well, even though I thought otherwise.
