Default Do you pull or push the Sportsman humpty??

All,

Looking at the sequence for Sportsman. If 3/4 roll to the right you pull the humpty if 3/4 roll to left you push the humpty. I know if the line is dashed it means push right?? What's confusing is the arrow points to the right to do the roll if this is true then the humpty will be a pull which contradicts the dashes?? Which one is it??

It's a push top regardless of which way you roll. Roll one way to take the manuever out, the other if you want to bring it in. The roll indicator (arrow) on the aresti diagram does not determine the roll direction. You can roll left or right, your choice.

The humpty is a push. In arresti, except for a few instances like rollers, the arrow only indicates a roll, not the direction of the roll. Direction is at the pilots discretion. However, the needed direction is often dictated by the way you enter and exit the maneuver.

Ronster,

If you prefer to have the airplane going away from you when you push, then roll in the direction from which you entered. "C" shows the wind left to right. Make the first roll left, then push over. the second 2 of 8 must be in the opposite direction to finish the manuever going in the proper direction. If you would like, remember that you turn first in the direction from which you entered, (enter from left, 3 of 4 to the left, push then 2 of 8 to the right).

I'm sure you already have Aresti made simple, if not, here: ARESTI MADE SIMPLE!

So basically its a push since the dotted lines indicate as such. Do the 3/4 entry to accomodate the push over the top. Thats the way I thought...

thanks All!!

Ronster
Some of the "better" Sportsman pilots use that maneuvor (sp?) to move their plane in if they are out to far or out if they are in to far. It's really the pilot's choice. The others are correct about the roll direction.
