Default Getting Started- My First Season

Thanks to all the help from this site. I picked up my first scale bird that I will be flying in Basic during the 2007 season. I found a used Wildhare 35% Extra 300 locally a couple of weeks ago. The plane had been flown for about 2 seasons of IMAC in the Southeast and is simply gorgeous. It was an all white ARF with a custom scheme applied by the previous owner Chris at Golden Eagle Aviation. The plane was bare save for the rudder servo and some switches. I was planning on using a DA-100 but found a used 3W 106B2 TOC that will be here next week. I decided to go with the Hitec 5985 MG's on the ailerons (2 per) and the elevators. I am leaning towards using a dual rx setup with the smart fly power expanders. I will have some type of ignition cutoff installed as well. I will be using the Futaba 9c super radio. I will be ordering the rest of the electricals in the next week or so. Should have her flying by early Dec., if the weather stays decent.

I want to share my experiences in the early stages and throughout the next season with my mistakes, triumphs and hard knocks. I am approaching this as a total newbie to this discipline of flying. I learned this past May on a H9 Twist then put together their Funtana X100. I built a scratchbuilt foamie, (the nasty) to help out learning some 3D stuff. I have the G3 sim that I fly as often as I can, trying to practice some manuveurs. I get out and fly as often as I can, usually about twice a week. I hope that this thread will help others as well as myself with comments, questions and also will keep the motivation up when the times get rough. We will see.

Once I get the plane ready I will start with the trimming flights etc.. then its time for me to get used to her and start practicing the basic sequence. There is an event in FL. in Jan that I hope to attend but alot depends on the weather up here and if I am able to get comfortable enough with her before then. I will keep you posted.

David,

You've got a great group of guys to fly with in the Southeast. Have fun and keep us posted. How about some pictures of your new bird?

Try to go even if you are not comfortable with the plane. By the end of the event you will be more comfortable than if you hadn't. Just do it my freind
