Good Morning all: Greetings from the 2008 Polar Bear. Woke up this morning (5:30 AM) and there is snow on the ground. 6:00 and the snow started again. 8:00 AM about 1 inch on the ground, but the hardy are getting started and ready. Snow is stopping and "Rainman" has a fire going. Stragglers are drifting in and its getting crowded. Looks like a late start, but those present are ready to brave the Elements, and get the job done. Long live the Polar Bear. |

19 Pilots signed up and waited for the weather to lift so the contest could begin. Finally kicked off the first round at noon. Weather abated and we got started. Flew part of the round and rain shower halted action for an hour. Got going again and after about 2 hours another shower halted flying, but we almost had the round finished. After that shower the final sequences were completed and we got in a full round. Not enough time to start again, so official flying was stopped for today. Darren and Mike Raines took to the air to put on a show of 3D flying. They both were putting on some great manuevers, and then WHAM - Mid air collision that was spectacular. Both planes turned into confettii, and were lost. Salvaged most of the main parts, but wreckage was spread over a large area, and all was not found. Had a great steak dinner thanks to Keith Leifsen and Bill Westerlund who did all the work to make it happen. Those that attended left well fed. Getting dark and Mike kicked off the Foamy Freestyle. 4-5 competitors still flying as I write this. Lighted foamies seem to now be the way to go. Forecast for tomorrow looks to be similar to today, but still planning to get in at least two full rounds. Unknowns first, and hopefully one more round of knowns. Weather permitting, should getter done. |

What a great event that was!!! The weather sure was unpredictable, but other than the midair and Warren's dead stick taking off his gear there wasn't any other grounding damage. We need to keep this thread going now that the event is over!! Or start a Medford thread ![]() Great job Mike with all the arrangments!! Devin
