Nick - Rick and Keith have communicated on the "Unknown's in Basic" issue so I will stay out of it.

I know what you mean. Just went from $4.03/gal to $4.19/gal at our Cheveron since last night!!! Makes you want to go find some of those oil company big wigs and them, but can't afford the gas to do it. Damn!!!! I'm going to struggle to make it to very many more contests this year myself. Since I'll be in Alaska during the Oly. contest, I probably won't see you till Mollala then Rick. But fly on & have a great summer bud. And by the way, I totally agree with you on unknowns for Basic class. They use simple Basic maneuvers anyway and it would give the pilots a more rounded experience for the move up to Sportsman like you said.

That's cool. It might be a good idea to post it on here once a ruling has been made because only a few of the Basic pilots are on here. That way, those of us that ARE on here can pass the word to the Basic pilots at our respective clubs so they can begin to prepare for it. Also, maybe an update to the NW site?

Hey Nick - Youre blaming the wrong people. Its the dip sticks in congress that wont allow us to tap into all the oil available in our own country, or build refineries to process it in our own country, that are to blame. But there are about 10 Polar Bears in ANWR that didnt have to move.

So every time you pump gas, you can feel good that you saved 10 Polar Bears from having to move a few miles.

Hey Rick I'm happy I can make it there as well. I have a couple of firsts at that field. First contest with my "new" motorhome (also ran out of propane if you remember and got lost coming back) and first and only time I got beat in basic . By 8 pts ouf of 5000. That was fun and should be a lot of fun this time too. Thanks for the kind offer.

Rick,
Believe me, I think Unknowns in Basic is a great idea; educational and entertaining at the same time. My concern comes from the IMAC Official Contest Standards Guide.
http://www.mini-iac.com/Portals/57ad...uide_Rev_2.pdf
Item 9. "The Basic Class will not fly an Unknown at any IMAC contest."
and item 14 which is too long to quote here, but talks about "IMAC-Style" events at which regional points will not be used to determine regional standings without prior approval from the IMAC BoD. I don't want to be a wet blanket; if we can do it, bring it on. I agree that it's all about having a good time flying with your friends and meeting new people, I'll be doing just that in Surrey this weekend. Maybe even learning to fly better, though that may be a stretch. I just don't want anyone to get to the end of the season and have to hear, "Oh, that one didn't count."
Thanks,
Jerry

If they fly an Unknown in Basic this contest will not count for points for anyone who attends.
Whats wrong with following the IMAC guidlines??

Wayne and Jerry you don't have to worry about anything because it is NOT GOING TO HAPPEN, with all the negativity from people, this is what turns people away from competition in general. the idea is to HAVE FUN! I have talked to the regional director and he said no, so there you have it. I wont comment on this any more. so lets have fun flying.

Well, there you have it. I, apologize, I was unaware (and Rick probably was also) of the "IMAC Official Contest Guide" and what it clearly states concerning this issue. Of course, we will follow the guidelines. Apparently, No one was aware of this last year, which was my first year in IMAC, and I wrongly assumed that the powers that be were doing things by the book. Anyway, I'm packed & loaded for the trip to Surrey to have a blast with my buds. The Palace rolls again!!!!

I know all about you "harv-a-nator" My team of secret service agents (code name - 330s) have been watching your practice sessions closely. It has been determined that you have been practicing one particular maneuver eccessively. However, "Hanging off the prop" DOES NOT resemble any elements or maneuvers in the Sportsman sequence. My agents will be at your Surrey field to ARESTI you if you show up. And we will all have a bahama mama celebration to commemorate the occasion..............J/K
