The Chiagoland Imac will be held August 11th-12th. I'll get it posted this week on the Imac site. New and better location. Fox Valley Aero Club St.Charles IL. On site camping. Huge landing area on grass or asphalt.

A central location is a nice idea on paper. However, the reality is that anything north of a line from Columbus, OH to St. Louis, MO (approximately) presents a weather issue for late September. I am in favor of having the regionals more in the southern part of the region just because of the weather thing. Just my opinion though.

A location has been picked out but, until the person states it, I'm not at liberty say who or where the Regionals will be.

Greg, thanks for giving me the heads up. I had no idea what was going on until I called and talked to Toby myself.

Sadly, Greg, I agree with you. See ya soon!!!

Hey Guys,

I am discouraged about the news in Peebles, and also that Burlington, KY is out too.....

I am going to ask if we at Hamilton could have the open July weekend for our contest. Our club is going to have an E-vent (electric's only) in early June. This would give some distance in event dates for our field being closed. If possible I would like that switch. That means that the June 24 & 25 will be open.

We are going to plan on having a "Mid Summer Nights EVEnt that will include a BBQ and IMAC freestyle on Saturday night. Camping is welcome and fun will be had by all. I hope the date change will work.

Default Re: NCFR 2007 Schedule.

hey guys, i trully appreciate the support given here and on the ncyahoo list. friends like jeff, dewey, chris, greg and many others have given me a little spirit in such a time when i have been personally upset and even depressed about the situation. to the ones who don't know i have been flying imac for 7 years, pattern for 10 years, rc q500pylon, cl, etc. i have been flying now for about 30 years. i've seen the rise and fall of several rc organizations. and to me organizations that fail, decline, or fall; due so, by the attitude of it's members and management. heck, we've seen this in the last 5 years just in imac. i have offered both directors bob hudson and ken mcquire any help that i could offer. i took a week off of my own personal vacation time at work last year so that i could be a nats judge at the last minute. and i do this with no regard to myself (well that's if the wife say's its oky doky-and she usually does). anyone who knows me; that i eat, live and breath rc aerobatics-whether that be imac or pattern. when bob called and wanted to see if i would be interested in doing it i said great! (then went oops, better ask lisa first-she said that would be GREAT). during this 2 week period i fill out over a hundred envelopes and write a donation letter so that we could get some bling-bling for the event. knowing a lot of manufacturers in the business, i think i could have gotten some nice stuff. but, at this point this is moot. bob calls me a week or two after the first phone conversation and tells me that SEVERAL people were dissatisfied with the location. as he states there are SEVERAL people "overwhelmingly against" having the district at my site. it sounds like several people were willing to call bob, before they call me about any "ISSUES" they might have. i give bob a lot of credit for being honest and witforth with me. he was honest and gave me answers to the questions i had.
#1 i asked who said what
#2 1 asked what problems/issues were presented
being a gentleman, i will not discuss #1 on an open forum; but, i have been enlightened as how NOT to do something to a person you call "friend".

here are some of the problems noted by the callers.
A. hotels aren't close enough. there are two NEW hotels built around our area. and yes we live in a rural area, but we are not total hicks just yet if you map quest these hotels one is 13 miles away and the other is 18.3miles per way. if you decided to go to one hotel you could eat at a family restraunt, get pizza, get cincy style coneys, etc. the other hotel has 3 nice steak houses, 5 pizza places, red lobster. so again, this seems to be a moot point. i don't remember too many contests i've been to that had a hotel behind it. lets see we'll drive 40minutes to a hotel at the jr challenge or 45minutes to the tos, but you complain on driving 13 miles? i guess i don't get it.
b. a neighbor complained about noise two years ago. yes she did, for one thing people were flying at daybreak, secondly (and this is my fault) i tried to let her know twice before the event what days of the month it happens. but couldn't get her on the phone or reach her at her house. this is a very nice lady that had her feathers ruffled just a little because she got woke up. i think we all could put ourselves in this situation if a jackhammer started going off at 5AM. so, resolution to this problem is that i built 2 new runways. one is 850 and the other is about 700', now remember this intersects 2 other runways that are 1100 & 1000' that all intersect in the center. basically now we fly entirely over my property. how many fields can say that?
c. comments were made that all my contest is, is a party and isn't taken seriously. well anyone who cd's an event wants the event to run smoothly and safely. and for the most part, i think i have achieved that. yes, after hours i TRY to make a FAMILY FUN time where people who brings their kids can enjoy fireworks and grilling a hotdog or marshmallow. if you find this a problem, cut back your drinking.
d. there is not enough parking. well i covered enough ground for 83 3d'rs at the heart of ohio huckfest. i believe i had somewhere around 20 acres to park in and the parking was done in such a way where you could daily come by drop your tent and planes. then drive off and park. not a problem how i see it?

every year i have had a cow or pig slaughtered for the event so people are eating quality food. every year i provided dinner for free (this year i asked people to bring in side dishes), and in previous years the lunches were free for ALL pilots AND family. all in all, i have spent $11,000 over a 5 year period just putting this event on. and to top the money tree off, i had over $3000 worth of airplane equipment stole from my basement during an imac event. i have always opened my field up to anyone who has wanted to fly and i still do. i have had several imac pilots drive 5 hours one way to come fly a weekend with me to practice for an upcoming contest. and i have done the same with them. I have cut foam wings/cores for several pilots on my cnc foam cutter and i have offered the entire district to make trophies for them at my cost (cheap).

when i heard the comments people were saying about my event, my field, myself, etc; why would i continue to put this event on? i ask any of you people that said something to the director before saying it to me to please do a little self reflection and ask, would you like it to be done to you. i would think not! as many of you will notice i am upset about this and have thought a lot about it in the last few days. and no, please don't call the wwwwambulance for me, I DONT NEED IT! i put this email out to not affend anyone, but to release it to hopefully improve our sport which i believe is 80% friendship, 15% practice, 5% flying. at least that is how i see it. i think bob hudson is going to be a great imac leader and i hope the district supports him in his position. if anyone wishes to discuss any issues with me, PLEASE give me a ring. and i hope to see you on the circuit when i feel more comfortable with my current feelings. thanks! 1-937-764-1606

Respectfully submitted;

Dr. Toby W. Silhavy R.Ph., BSCE,BS
