Whew, it is in the books! The 2008 Chicken wing has come and gone. Thanks very much to the 14 pilots who drove in from Ohio, Michigan, Canada, Kentucky and Indiana. The weather was a bit poor Saturday but we did manage to fly from about 11:00 till almost 5:00 practicing the 2008 knowns and for the most part liking them. We had 3 drafts of the Unlimited sequence that we flew through and sort of had our favorites. We then headed off to BW3's for some spirits and chicken wings. Thanks to John, Jamie and Mike for being our DD's back to the field. It was great to see our friends again and have a beer with them over a nice dinner. We sort of picked up a newbie, Cheese Wiz. Chris and his father Joe Haas (sp?) who are nice folks. Hopefully we got the hook in Chris as he looks pretty talented (remember to practice those lines Cheese). Somehow we got stuck with him and his dad went back to the hotel for the evening!! No more energy drinks allowed Cheese <LOL>. It was great to see the Canadians come down for the weekend. Cliff, Rick, Brian and Donny, what great guys. Donny is one of the best EH. Saturday evening at the field was pretty much fun. Typical Cincinnati "burn-it" evening. Somehow we developed this tradition of burning crashed planes which we did for Mike R. and Donny. Seems you have to wear the turtle deck before throwing it on the fire (see image below). Not sure where that came from but it is sort of fun. After everyone got up and moving Sunday morning we found perfect blue skies awaiting. Much better than Saturday weather. The sun was a bit rough in the fall sky since it is so low. There was flying all day on two flight lines and the 2008 sequences started coming together for us. I think the overall feelings for Unlimited were favorite A, second B and not cared for a great deal, C. The other sequences seemed to flow pretty well. We had a number of electric planes and a few heli's going all weekend on the other runway. Great to see people enjoying the flying field. Everyone started packing up around 4 or so and headed out for home and colder weather. It was great having you and we wish you the best winter possible. Thanks again and to those of you who got phone calls, we missed you. Will B. |
