Hey fellas, I have been throwing around the idea around of holding a 3-day (fri, sat, sun) IMAC contest here in the Northeast Region in 08'. It would be a sponsored event with prizes for the pilots, similar to the an event like the JR Challenge that used to happen in FL. I would also attempt to invite in judges to keep the amount of contestant judging to a minimum. I would need to gauge well ahead of time the interest in a 3-day contest here in the N.E. Region. I know that the JR Challenge used to draw pilots from all over the east coast. What are your guys thoughts on having this type of contest up here? I would be aiming for August timeframe for the contest as the weather is far more predictable/better up here that time of the year. I have several location possibilities as well, but it would be central to the core groups of guys which exist in the PA area, as well as the NH/ME area so that either group wouldnt be traveling an exorbindent amount of miles.

I would be interested in that- you could take the regular CAPI date- last weekend in August. We are moving the CAPI and guys are already used to having a contest that weekend so you could build on that. I imagine you have something in mind along the lines of the Connecticut area. Having said that, I'd love to see something that could be a big enough deal to draw from Canada and parts of the Midwest as well. Another idea would be to get a "home and home" series with the guys in the Midwest. We have two contests- one in, say, Ohio somewhere and one in the NE where we travel to each others contest. Just throwin' some ideas around. Dave |

Sounds like a great idea John. For me, I take most of my vaction days on Friday's to go to contests and camping so a three day contest is fine with me. ........Mark

Glad to hear the positive feedback to the idea. I think I am definetly gonna try to roll with it. I think it would great to have a 3+ day contest with multiple unknowns, and lots of flying. As I get more details togethor, I will keep you guys posted. As it looks now, I would probably be holding it in the CT/NY/MA area, as it is directly in between the Northern NE guys and the Southern NE region guys. Also, I have direct access to several fields in that area that are ideal for this type of event, with a great facility and ample room. Of course contestants from anywhere would be welcomed! The more the better!

John, we talked about this at the pocono contest and I think is an awesome idea. It would not be a bad idea to get a couple of CDs involved to help out, either way I'm in let me know if I can help in any way. Albert |
