The QQ Yak continues to have issues for completion. Newer 50 cc version. The first problem was the cowl cut backwards. The slot went up insted of down over the cylinder. Replaced promptly by by QQ aircraft a few months ago. The plan was to fly this over this past weekend. When installing the aluminum pins into the wing the supplied parts were too short to anchor in the second rib inside the wing. Called QQ Aircraft and received no reply Thursday or Friday. Decided to make new ones to save time. Aquired 1/4" aluminum rod to do this. Unfortunately the supplied parts are 6mm just under the size of 1/4" rod. Redrilled the wing and fuse for the new rods. (6 mm = 0.2362" compared to 0.25" for the 1/4" rod). Once this is done the "O" rings were fine however the washers needed also drilled out. This all worked out for a nice installation and doesn't have any visual difference (about 1~1/2 mm difference) from the original but took many hours to change. All the flying surfaces are completed to hook up except for attaching the pull-pull cables to the servo arm. The engine is mounted, header cut to fit per the plans (still can't figure out why this was needed and should have been taken care of in the design stage in my opinion). Need to install the throttle servo and linkage, mount the cowl and canopy. There are many things that a considerable amount of thought and planning are evident in this design. All these issues however add up to more time to get an airframe ready for flying. My original plan was to use a 60 cc engine in this aircraft. Since the firewall is positioned for the DA it was all but impossible to use the other engine without a complete rebuild. (Had a long conversation with Wayne @ QQ Aircraft regarding this.) I would imagine the DL engine would fit without modification. It doesn't appear this will be flyable in time to do any practice before the contest. My overall opinion is the extra time and frustration with these (ARF) planes may be better spent building my own airframe and setting up during the building process. It also allows my own color scheme to be used with graphics and design to my liking. I'll get off my soap box now. May still drive up one day to observe. Thanks for the space. Later, Bill |

Hey guys, Well reality has set in and I just don't see me making it. We have our closing on the 28th and there is a lot of things that I need to get done still. I just can't see losing the weekend before we move.I thought I could get enough done between now and then but it just isn't happening.. work has been crazy busy! If something changes and I got a lot done this weekend then I will do my best to make it though! |

Mark, I will be bailing on this one, sorry. I made a prior commitment I had totally forgotten about and was reminded about this past weekend. I did remove myself from the pre-reg site
