Default RC shops in FL

Hey Folks:

Can anybody turn me on to a couple shops around Punta Gorda or Ft Myers. I'm going down for vacation right after Christmas and I think I'll pick up an Electric to fly while I'm down there. I have a little place down there and need to start a hanger!!

Thanks in advance

BP

I live on the southeast coast or I could help you out more. I would find a local club and ask its members what the best hobby shop around the area is. You can always google it or look on a manufacturer's retail outlets list; again I think asking some local flyers of a club in that area your best bet!

Hobby Warehouse is right on 41 near Page Field Airport in Ft Myers. It's a pretty decent little shop.

Hobbie Warehouse is in Ft. Myers off 41. They have a decent selection of stuff but you should know what you need before you get there. The staff knows next to nothing about airplanes and accessories. If they don't have it on the shelf, don't bother having them order it (because they won't)..

ADMIN EDIT: Let's not hammer a name of a fellow modeler. Thanks.

used to work there. I. Unfortunately, he was the only one that had a clue about airplanes. Even then, he sold a lot of people I know the wrong stuff..

There are 2 new hobby stores that just opened over the bridge in Cape Coral. Neither of which have an impressive stock, nor a wealth of knowledge..

Hard times in SWFL. I mail order just about everything but Amsoil and Super Dri.

My $ .02 worth of cynicism.

**EDIT**

There is a decent hobby shop in Port Charlotte. The staff is friendly and for the most part, seem to be knowlegeable.

If you are driving down and come through Orlando stop by Graves r/c on the way down to Ft. Meyers. Graves has over 300 airplanes hanging on the ceiling. and a 14ft high by 40ft long wall of kits and arfs. and over 20,000 items in stock this place is a hobby metropolis so to speak. I worked there for almost 2 years. BUT!!!!! AND A BIG BUT!!!!!! Most of the people that work there can be RUDE and ERROGANT and dont ask for a discount they will laugh at ya no matter how much you spend. Just a warning. But unfortunatly no one in the the state has the prices or the inventory Graves has. You will never see another hobby shop like it. If you do go there ask for Neal he knows his electric's and he has the freindliest personality of all the other employees.

Also check out Bob's Hobby Center here in Orlando as well Its a bit smaller than Graves but none the less it's a neat place to visit.
The floor is painted to look like a runway. Also the staff there are very freindly and helpfull and go the extra mile to help you out.
and the prices are not that bad either. www.bobshobbycenter.com

Yeah AHP, Hobby Warehouse was a lot better before they moved after the hurricane. My dad ordered some stuff from them and they did OK. I've never been to the one in Naples, but it looks like a small shop too. Where do you fly? I know there is a field way out in Cape Coral, but it's a hike for my dad. He's over on Daniels Parkway near Six Mile Cypress. He flies over at the Buckinham's field out Northeast of Ft Myers Regional.

Jay,

I fly at the R/Seahawk field in N. Cape Coral (I live about 10 minutes away). It's a MUCH MUCH nicer facility than the Buckingham field. A good friend of mine lives literally right around the corner from Buckingham and drives out to the Cape field. I don't know if they still do it, but Buckingham used to only allow one take off and landing direction regardless of the wind direction.. Among other things, it's a much better place to fly IMO and well worth the drive.

Could you maybe get me some info for my dad. When I was down last year, they were putting a subdivision all around the field. They don't even fly of the heliport anymore. They moved down the street by a bus barn, but the developers are moving in. I'd really appreciate any info on how he can join the club.

Jay,

Your dad can come and fly any time with an AMA card. Club membership is obviously highly encouraged but very loosely enforced. There are membership flyers at the field he can fill out and mail in along with a check. Or, if pops is computer savvy, he could download the form here: http://www.rseahawks.org/join.html

The Port Charlotte store is not too bad, Jose is knowledgable and approachable. I think the name is "The Hobby Shop", just north of Punta Gorda on US41.
