Last time I took the train to NY (Grand Central) from DC it was $300 on Acela. Absolutely the best way to go to NY from here but pricey.

Unless you planning on going with some friends, or meeting some friends there to hang around with for the day.....I wouldn't drive 5 hrs to go. Unless you REALLY want to.
