Default Going bigger need a new vehicle - What should I get ?

Hello FG -- I have been flying for about 3 seasons now and primarily in the .40 size range for both glow and electric. I have recently decided to finally go big and due to this I know I need another vehicle. I currently drive a 2 door coupe acura and for the most part use to squeeze 2 glow planes in there and 1 or 2 electrics. Don't ask me how I did it .

I am planning on purchasing the new QQ 86" yak and I know that I need a bigger vehicle. Here is the kicker my wife needs a new vehicle so I am going to think about her and the kids and myself (is that selfish). I am going to probably purchase her a Honda Odyssey which I believe I will use on the weekends to take that big plane down. My question is is the Odyssey a good vehicle for this. I know the rear seats fold down but I know I will be going bigger next year and I want to stay away from a trailer. Which other vehicles should I look into which provides a lot of cargo space.

So your going to get a QQ 86 inch Yak, and looking at going bigger again next year ?

I have a 2002 Ford F250 Crew Cab with the 6 3/4 bed, my sons 85 inch QQ Yak will fit with just a couple of inches to spare, we just got a 33% and it wont fit after we got the engine and spinner and all on it, but that may be due to my wheelchair lift mounted in the front cornet of the bed of my truck though and having to leave room for my wheelchair to set in the back corner, leaving me to pull my trailer now.

I know some of the guys have vans and they can get the 40'ers in them.

So just as your doing and asking, its smart to try to plan accordingly cause you will run out of room quick LOL.

I would suggest finding out what the overall length is as to what you are looking to move up to once again next year, and then when you go looking at vehicles to measure and make sure that the plane will fit inside, thats what I would suggest.

You can get a 40%er in an odysey but you have to remove one of the middle seats. If you leave the stabs on you have to crank the fronts seats all the way forward. Stabs off no problem. This is the way I halled mine for a season. The bigger issue is if you get gas smell is the wifes van. That is a bigger problem.

I am also trying to eliminate moving too much stuff to get the plane in the vehicle. 40 % is what I am looking for next year. That is the exact problem right now her current car has a gas smell every now and then and the mechanics haven't been able to pinpoint it. I dont' need her passing out while driving. Your right she will be upset at me if I make her relive the gas smell.

Maybe a older cheap van and I rip all the seats out for myself for this year. Dan -- or everyone with the gassers is the gas smell because their is still gas left in the tank or just the vapors that are in there.

Actually I am going to the dealership with a tape measure in hand and will probably measure for a 40%.

Its funny when I first started flying one of the guys told me your most expensive expense in this hobby will be a bigger vehicle. I guess he is right. I already had a couple friends that purchased trucks to accomodate their planes.

I drive a SUV. I can fit a 35% with no stabs on it. I think that JeeUm says that he can get 2 35%'s in a 4 dr. Explorer. Thats what I drive.

Either a SUV or a soccer mom mini van!!!!

Thats BANKS! I've seen him do it!

We fit a 40% in an Infinity SUV. along with 2 50CC planes and an 80" profile.

We usually just take the trailer though.
