I was thinking today. (oh no!) Does anyone else think it would be cool to have a plane "foamy comes to mind" that we could send from member to member and they could fly it and take a few pics. They could put them in the box or post them on here. After the flying session you would pack it up and send it off again to a new member. I would be willing to donate a rx and some servos. If we could get some people to dig in there spare boxes and throw something together I think this would be an awesome thing. Maybe we could get a few rules in place. like: if you crash it you should fix it. a time limit to keep the plane. like a week or something like that. Does this sound good or is it stupid? It seems to be something nobody else is doing I think it would be awesome and would show how "tight" fg members are. Matt |

Actually, this is a great idea. They did something like this as a plot for a Surfing film. The series was called "Single Fin Yellow", here is a link: http://www.singlefinyellow.com/ The idea is that they made a board and sent it to surfers around the world to ride in their local surf spots. It is a really interesting film, part travel, part personalities, part surfing. It created a good vibe all around. I think it could be a great project for the Flying Giants. We would get to see the local flying scene around the world, meet the people who fly, and connect with the community. I'm sure it would not be hard to get sponsors involved and do a really nice film. People would have to submit a resume to get on the list to recieve the plane. Shouldn't be hard to get sponsors to back the whole thing. -STEVE- |

Another idea as to this with submitting an application or whatever so that there could be track kept of where it is going and who has it...maybe ship it via UPS or Fed Ex so there is a tracking number and it couldnt get lost with our wonderful USPS snail mail and no way of knowing what happened to it. It would be neat to have it to make it to all 50 states in the U.S. As stated before in a previous post, have the pilot sign it with his/her FG nick and real name and the state they reside in. As to the pics that would be taken with it, and it would make it a bit more difficult to do this because of traveling that would be involved, to go and take a pic of the pilot and plane in front of their states capital...just another twist to it that would make it neat showing the states it had been in and it was at every states capital, kind of a traveling history kind of thing...but getting to all 50 states would be a really neat thing regardless of the other. Was just thinking that I have seen some people that are retired and buy a camper or motor home and they set off traveling and go to each of the 50 states and go to that states capital and they get stickers to put on their campers showing the states they have been to. Dont know if it would be possible to draw the outline of the U.S. along with the outline of each state and have the pilot sign inside the state they live in ? Question, as to the plane and equipment, it would be the plane with motor, speed controller, servos and battery, and the pilot that had it at the time would be responsible for supplying and using their own reciever and transmitter ? As Steve said above, maybe if some contacts were made with different manufacturers and it was explained to them as to your idea, they would donate a part from each that contact was made with ? If set up this way then the plane would be almost identicle other than placement of the reciever as to CG when a pilot got it...just trying to help think of ways to make the setup from one to another a bit easier. As to it being a foamy, I would think that it would be easier if it were a single wing foamy and not a bipe...if there was some way to design it so that the wing was detachable so that the shipping box wouldnt have to be so large ? Just another idea. You have one here from Kentucky if this thing goes. Last edited by Dan_nO; 04-18-2007 at 12:50 PM. |

This sounds like a cool idea. One possibility would be to get video of it with each member flying it. I like to watch different folks fly for their different styles. It would be interesting to see each member flying the same plane. 50% |

Ill sign in for the arkansas spot. I will try to modify my Yak 54 with a removable wing. It would be in Fan Fold if you want me to build it!! Heavier than 3mm but it should make the round trip!! |

If we CNC'ed the plane, I could throw in a few plane spare parts if anyone thinks that would be a good idea. Extra wings, fuses, tails..... Also a removable wing would not be a prob!! Here is the YAK54... Last edited by Pro1Foam; 04-18-2007 at 01:39 PM. |
