Default Tuscon newbie questions

Well, I just got the ok from the boss(the wife) to make the trip to tuscon this year. I've had excuses for not going the last couple years and have regreted it greatly. Looks like the dates are October 3-7th.
Since I'll be just watching I'm about to book a flight and hotel.
So.................When does everyone get down there? I was thinking about taking a red-eye out of DFW Thursday night and coming back Monday. There's nothing going on Monday right?
How far is it from the field to the airport? Is there one place that most FG'ers are staying?
Man I can't wait...
Thanks
Shaun

Where exactly is the field? Anyone have directions or location in reference to Tucson? Thanks!

Yea, I been looking at some of the motels that offer like a vacation package and airfare combined, i was surprised that some of the rates are cheaper on the motel and the airfare if you do it that way instead of seperatly.

So im still searching and trying to find a deal that will work with the airfare to leave Louisville Ky and fly into Phonex, then from there to Tucson so to avoid going into Texas and Chicago to get there.

Im still seaching.

It is often cheaper to fly into PHX rather than TUS... It's only 1.5 hr drive from PHX to Ina road, while it's a good 40 minute drive to TUS from Ina road, go figure! The coolest thing about Tucson now is that all of the I-10 exits are closed... Gotta love Tucson city planners. Fortunately, the closures won't effect getting too and from TIMPA, the model field.

Is that the closest hotel to the field? Or the hotel that will allow us to relax?

Dan No-- Let me know if you find some good airfare/hotel combos.

I'll check this out. Thx Matt.

If anyone find some great deal, well......speak up! (I'd rather put the $$$ in to my plane then in to a hotel room).

You'll learn that nothing is actually close to anything in Tucson. We have fewer highways connecting Tucson than the inches of rain we get annually. ;-)

When I was there in April I was amazed at how long it takes to get anywhere. We were about 20 miles from the field and it took about an hour to get there. That was with little to know trafffic. Without any hiways you get caught by light after light.
