If you were a lot closer I would offer up myself to fly in the airshow. I have been part of an airshow and know what is expected out of someone who flies at one of those events. Best thing to do is make real good friends with the airboss and ask him what acceptable type of flying he would like to see from you. I know all us 3D'ers love the "in your face" flying and hovering but an airshow is not a place to do something like that. Everything needs to be kept out and under control. Another is YOU NEED A SPOTTER!! He will watch out for taxing planes that have just finished and possibly those starting up and taxying out while you are flying. And just remember those show airplanes are worth MILLIONS. You would hate to have to spend money on that 3 million dollar mustang sitting out on the tarmack waiting to go up. And one more. Be safe. Good luck to ya.

Hey Everyone... The AMA has several show teams around the country to promote the hobby and attend full scale events such as this. Not to get into much detail but there are changes coming for this program next year. There is a show team in Texas that may be able to cover the event. I am part of the Radio Active Airshow Team as are several others here on the Giants. There is a lot of work to provide a good show... ground and air show. Check out the link in my sig and I believe there is a link to the Texas team that you may want to contact. Our team along with several others are members of ICAS http://www.icashq.org/ I would really deter you from flying someone elses airplane at an event like this as safety is our highest concern. Insurance is a very big issue. I would suggest you contact a team close to your area and go that route.

Hey guys, thanks for the vote of confidence..( I do wish I was only 16!!!). Chris, you hit on the #1 piece of research that I did accomplish. I have been to countless airshows, and have spoken with many airshow professionals, and they all said the same thing. SAFETY SAFETY SAFETY! I have seen all too often (even on the giants) too many accidents that have claimed the life of some amazing performers. While this is very tradgic, could you imagine if Jim LeRoy's plane went down into the crowd, or Eric Beard, or the Blue Angel that we lost this year too. The losses suffered during those accidents were minamal because of their commitment to safety. Though we lost some great pilots, it speaks volumes of the airshow community that things weren't worse. I'd venture to say that 15-20 years ago, many more people would have died in those situations, because there wern't the boundries that there are now.

Ah, ok. Scotte, The fact that you have 16 post here, 11 before the thread, is not going to win you an airplane. Please don't blame the "FG Vibe" for this. You don't even have much in your profile. I don't know many folks who are going to let a complete stranger fly their airplane..... I've made countless friends here on FG. I enjoy going to their clubs. The FG vibe is real, if you put into it. I don't fly more than a .40 sized Kaos. However, watch my snap-a-saurus video. I fly it to the max. Here on FG, it's not "thou must talk airplanes" Here, folks invest in each other. We care about what other folks are doing. Maybe you would have gotten a plane to fly if you had more post, maybe not. In the meantime, how about some vids with your awesome hucking skills throwing the smack on a foamie! 50% | ||||||||||||||||||

I recommend you go around to some fly-ins and some IMAC contests and get to know the folks in your area. Modelers love to help each other out but will rarely loan you a plane without knowing you. I can tell you once you get to know them they will do what ever they can to help. If my plane went in now with the Tucson Shootout only 3 weeks away I am confident I could get offers from 5 guys to loan me their 40% planes to fly. I am a nobody and not sponsored by anyone but I have made friends that are are willing to bend over backwards to help me or any of our friends. I am swamped in Oct. or I would offer to come down there and fly for your airshow. Good luck, Dan

If you are willing to compensate someone for a crash, then why don't you just buy one from the swap shop, fly it, do the show and then sell it?? There are all sizes for sale, all the way up to 50%er's.
