When I lived in Michigan we had two clubs that had membership caps that were fairly local to me. In both cases the reasoning was agreements with the landowner's. They were given permission to build a field and fly, but with membership number restrictions, this was done to appease the neighbors. I agree that you should have had that explained to you.

Unless a club has sooo many people that it cant handle anymore, it should allow new members. I would think also if a club was sooo large that its leadership would look for say another flying site. Surely even with 300 members if you had two or three sites it would ease congestion. I have the same feelings as everyone else here; we should be open to letting new members join. Its the life blood of the sport! Without new members we may all at some point look forward to LOOSING our flying sites. Superdave, I wont name any clubs but the old club I was a part of before we formed a new club was so hesitant to let anything larger then 33% fly at the field. I would often bring out my 33% plane and I was always heckled with " How big is that thing"..etc. Well I made sure that when we moved to the new field the larger planes (anything up to 50lbs no scale limit) would be allowed. The field I used to fly at in the military was a giant scale ONLY field (or at least used to be) and it was great having the big birds and even smaller birds fly together. Even now I only fly during certain times of the day to avoid the group of complainers who rarely fly.

| Bad-ass Super Contributer! ![]() | To give credit where credit is due, the committee did decide that prospective members could come out and if the committee "liked" them then they could join. I thought that was m-i-g-h-t-y big of them and cant wait till I have their approval. |

Like every story the telling depends on the outcome you want. I was at the meeting. The Secretary only replied that membership is oversubscribed, it was not personally directed. The Secretary only reiterates what the members want, after all it is not his decision! From a different perspective: This club flies on Council owned land which is an OPERATING Turf farm. We are allowed to fly 2 and a 1/2 days only. If you look at the "other" field he is using as a reference, they fly 7 days. So: 112members /2.5 and X 7 = 313 possible members to get the same density for that club, which has only 230 members at last count. They have more air time then we do! We have members who have waited nearly 2 hours for a spot on a busy day. His comment about only 6 members is rubbish. Last Saturday saw 65 fliers attend including Helis. (They have a separate time slot every hour so they can practice their 3D stuff. We close the fixed wing flight line just for them, further limiting our opportunities) Just another stirrer, but everyone is entitled to their view. |

Most week ends the flight line is very busy until late morning or early afternoon, that is why THE MEMBERSHIP voted for a cap. As for special acceptance for people once the cap has been exceeded that is up to the membership not the committee, and it is to weed out potential trouble makers and jerks. Eagleburger makes issue that the club has about 50% less than other local clubs, this is correct he did not tell you that the other clubs fly 7 DAYS A Week while as mentioned this club ONLY FLYS 3 DAYS A WEEK. The father & son that were knocked back are ALREADY members of another club and just wanted associate membership. To accept them may jepodise the joining a new member to the sport, Committee & members do look at tht as well. Some figures to hand show the General Meeting where the issue was voted on shows 78% of the members in attendance voted to limit the membership to only 85 members as it was thought at the time to be sufficient. Since then we have allowed another 30% to join to the point we now have members who can't get airborne in a reasonable time. This same person has threatened to take up the issue with "His Council" to force us to accept him! What has the poor (non paid) Secretary done by living our of "his" area anyway? Sounds like sour grapes to me. |

![]() Eagle go and join another club, you didnt say that 78% of the members voted against you joining. WHy go to council if they dont want you, you will get no joy if they force the club to let you join. Sounds like you need to approach council with other people who are turned away and start a new club. Last edited by Surly_Schmidt; 09-16-2007 at 07:27 PM. | ||||||||||||||||||
