The only problem with an age limit to be imposed is that it would have to reflect on both ends of the spectrum, young and old.My 6 year old son has a better skill set than most of the 60 and older group in my club, and the older group will be the first ones to tell you this. There are a few guy's that actually let my son get the second flight in on a new model, after I trim it out and sat every thing is OK.I think that an age limit is a very Bad thing, there is No Way that I could be able to tell my so that he cant fly becouse he is not -- years old and expect him to still have an interest in it when he reaches said age.

Mike,
You're right, this thread is pointless. All it's going to do is create bad P.R. for the hobby, that's why this is my last post in this thread. We should just let the AMA handle it, I'm sure they will make the best decision in the end.

The last accident at our field AMA didnt help much financial wise.

Videogames can hurt young pilots. Videogames you tend to jerk sticks and you cant do that with rc.

I dont know any of the facts about the accident so I will not comment on it. I would like to add that I met Justin and his parents at this years XFC and from what I saw Justin is a very capable pilot. There was no pressure put on him to fly. I think Justin has a bright future in this hobby and it would be unfortunate if he does not continue. I think the accident should be a wake up call for everybody to take safety more seriously whether flying at a big event or at your local club.

Default Re: sad news

For those who quoted my comments I just was trying to say there is nothing wrong with him flying at all. Theres just something wrong with a 5 year old being a demo pilot who is expected to perform extream maneuvers for a crowd.

By experience I ment that if I were going to hire/sponser a demo pilot I would want someone who has been flying for years and had many flights and experiences under his belt before he represented me. I dont think a pilot is experienced when he runs off leaving the transmitter while in flight or quits paying attention to the aircraft while he pays attention to other kids at the field. This is where the lack of experience comes into play. Flying isint just moving sticks there is complete package and a demo pilot needs even more than a guy at the field. Comparing this situation to the weekend flyer isint exactily apples to apples.

It really is just my opinion but in the world we live in this action will probabally result in rules for the rest of us to live by. He could still fly and enjoy himself flying if he was not flying at a large meet doing demos right? Flying for the right reasons I beleive he could. And at a club on the weekends there are not near as many and most times none of the innocent spectators that are un-aware of the dangers.

I was moved by this thread and wanted to put my opinion out there caus I feel strongly about it. I dident exactily know my comments would be picked apart. What I will tell you is that for me this is the truth. There are those of you out there that feel differently and thats cool. If we all had the same opinion we wouldent even have a thread. So if you misunderstand my comments by all means post clarifying questions. However trying to convince me (or others) that I am wrong or stupid on this subject wont really do much for me.

MAN!!! I could'nt agree more with you, It's like almost everyone is blind to the prob. that 2.4 has (unexplained lockouts)!!! I have seen and heard of MANY crashes involving "unexplained lockout" since the 2.4 went mainstrem, So much so in fact that I will not own a 2.4 system. I really wish a count can be done to see how many crashes countrywide on PCM or FM there has been compared to 2.4 since it went mainstream. I would bet my lifes savings that 2.4 crashes are double or more then everything else combined! The problem is really hush hush is'nt it? C-mon people I am talking about the well being and saftey of people here!
To the devotees of 2.4-- Go ahead and flame on! I have been flying FM and PCM for over a dozen years with NO glitches- NOTTA, ZERO, ZILCH not even a hiccup!! Period! So when you get locked out, (Oh and it will happen, just give it time) I can say "told ya so"!
Personally I would put $ on this incident being related to a 2.4 prob.! And what about this that I hear and read that the 2.4 cant see thru the prop? I might be wrong on that but I swore I heard it or read it somewhere. And thats a mighty big prop on those there helis! Was that ever taken into consideration before it was installed into a heli?? HMMM, Heres one for ya, I know this is a bold statement but it is for our own saftey-- "2.4 should 'Never" be allowed to be installed and flown in a heli until the system has been proven" If ever!! 2.4 has not proven itself yet! And after this incident, in the future if there is a 2.4 system in a heli in the vicinity of me I will be leaving immediatly!

Out of respect for the injured, I have decided to not to respond to any comments whether good or bad or true or false. Here is a story of Justin Chi and I hope it will shed some light.

I started a thread about the accident on another site and it quickly spiraled out of control. I would first like to say that I think Justin has amazing skills. However, I would also like to tell you that I'm of the opinion that 5 years old is too young to be flying an airplane or heli of any size around a crowd this size. Why? Cause I learned to shoot a gun at a very young age. However, I wasn't allowed to carry a gun while hunting with others till I was much older and more able to understand the responsibilties of packing such a weapon. Our aircrafts can be just as deadly as a gun if hit in the wrong way / place - we've forgotten that fact. I wouldn't want to see a 5 year old running around with a .22 pistol on his side in a large group of people even though he can shoot the bullseye out of a target at 50 yds...would you?

Thanks for keeping this conversation civil guys. I too have seen other threads spiral, and I'm proud to see we all get the FG vibe.

Benny, been following all of this from day one, you have friends here, and I hope everything is panning out for the best in this situation.

If 3 of you request this closed, consider it done.

Benny, I had the pleasure of watching Justin at the XFC this year. I not only got to watch his flying, but I also had the chance to watch him and your family interaction off the flight line. I even watched from a distance as Justin was flying at the area away from the flight line. I was impressed with his respect for the distance between his machine and spectators.

I was also very impressed with the interactions I witnessed between all of the family members. I have nothing but respect for Justin, and your entire family. These are the things I remember well.
