When it makes a ripping sound?

If the plane is tailslideing slightly in prophang, then this is the prop stalling, or if it is when you rev up to full power and you can here a crackling sound, this is the prop tip going supersonic.

Because of the low pressure at the prop tip, the tip actually only needs to travel at about .6 Mach to approach supersonic, just in case you proceeded with calculating the tip speed.
