I would like to extend my thanks to Dave, Tony and the gang at DA for letting me put their new 170 on my Dalton 260 for the Spring Classic this past weekend in Florida. Tony Russo shipped this beautiful powerplant to me last week and we replaced my 150 with the 170 after only a few hours of sleep after Tony flew in. The setup was the 170, Grieve pipes and a Mej 29-12N 3 blade. The results were unbelievable!!! I had just maidened the plane this past Thursday with the same setup except I had the 150 on the nose. The power this engine makes is truly breath taking! It was like a 150 with NOS and a couple of solid rocket boosters attached to the side of the plane. Tony brought an onboard computer with him that measured RPM and altitude. During one of the flights Tony stopped the plane on a vertical upline about 150 feet off the ground at idle power then gassed it. According to the remote computer, the engine instantly went to 6000+ RPM and rocketed to an amazing 2300 feet in 11 SECONDS!!!! It was to hard to see at that point! If my memory serves me it tached out at 6400ish RPM on the ground during the runup! It really sounded nice on the pipes to. Very quiet in the air with that setup. Some high profile pilots flew the plane and were just amazed by the power this engine put out. Crowds of pilots stopped whatever it was they were doing to watch it fly. What else can I say, it truly was a rocket ship. Thanks again Dave. You truly have a work of art there!

Man... I was talking to my dad about this setup. He told me that we'd better start saving .It looks very nice, about how much throttle will it hover at?

6850 on the ground!!!!! You sure about that????? That is extremely impressive if correct and blows away my 3W 170 which is very strong!

Sp33d- Didnt do any 3d. We were setting it up and practicing for the contest. If I had to guess, around 1/3 power with the prop we ran. JPrc- Its sick power! Thats what the Seagull onboard telemetry read.

Doing the same conversion as soon as I get my motor. Question, are you running the 150 size Greves? I have MTW's in it right now, but also have a set of Greves laying around. Can you post a pic or 2 of the installation? Thanks Tom |

Thanks for letting us use your plane for some real life contest data gathering. The motor and Tony made it back to Tucson today. We pulled the motor apart for inspection and down loaded all the flight data tonight. This was the first low altitude (sea level) flight test/data gathering for the 170. By looking at the graphs, it looks like you guys had fun.... ! Thanks again Dave
