Mike I think we all understand and appreciate your love for modeling and building from scratch and if I had the time for that I could probably get into it too but the fact is that I just don't have the time. I barely have the time to put an ARF together. I've got three sitting in the garage now and hope to finish one in the next month. My neighbor, and flying partner, is a good example. He has planes he built 20 years ago from kits. After he got me into the sport and I introduced him to ARFs he switched. He's a great builder but has three kits sitting half built because he just doesn't have the time anymore. A hand built plane is a beautiful thing but I'm afraid they are becoming the toys of those that can afford to pay folks like you to build them for them. It's a shame but it's a fact of the world today.

I am nice. The truth only hurts if it should.

Ryan, To answer your last question. Those flying IMAC planes in IMAC sequences using a straight 4-5-6 channel radio would get hammered by the 12 year old kids flying 40% planes in Sportsman. Move that same competitor to Pattern with an old Curare or Tiporare and the same 4-5-6 channel radio and you'd have full role reversal. Most of the the kids would suck hind teat. Oh, I most certainly do remember the old 3IM issues. I flew brown and white or red and white depending on who was out that day.... The truth should never hurt because it is the truth. For those where it does it only means they've either been in denial or been treated much to pc for too long. |

I'm sorry but IMAC, Pattern, same shiz different plane. Skills are skills. No 3D throws are needed to fly either discipline, besides if you want to handicap someone with their radio then you better be willing to give yourself the same handicap. Everyone has access to basic computer radios that have exponential and rudimentary mixing these days so who cares. My Extra set up for IMAC has small throws and small expo and maybe a small % rudder to aileron mix. Take that away from me and I'll adapt no problem.

Yo Ryan, This is starting to sound like a shootout - you bring your IMAC I'll use my pattern ship. Your turf is out, it'll have to be mine. But I gotta tell you, I wont be bringing a knife to a gunfight, my radio is fully loaded...Yeah, one of those things a guy has got to do before this life is over. See you in OZ. Cheers mate / Barry |

Not only that but grumpy old men are still grumpy and still fly in circles. Is there sniff of challenge? come out and participate. Get involved, what do expect, free flight rubber band?

I just get irritated at the people who make remarks like "The radio flys the plane for him". What My 14MZ does for me is mix out the irritating little coupling issues, it puts in just a pinch of down elev at full idle, it adds a little right rudder at full throttle... it makes the plane fly like low rates when I am just pushing the sticks around neutral for normal stuff and then when I need the big throws.. Bah-Dah-Bing-Bah-Dah Bang.... there it is!!! It also reminds me when I oughta land.. dead sticking from a TR sucks! It will also play music!!! The radio helps to null out the irritations so I can focus on flying the model. Having a reliable, predictable plane with no bad habits is how one advances. The decrease in building time/Assembly time has allowed for an increase in Pilot'ing time... THAT is a big reason for pilots on average being better today. |
