I've maidened probably 20 + planes this year already. Many were mine, but I think more were others. I don't understand it myself, crash or no crash, I would much rather maiden my own planes. But then again, I don't understand why most pilots are so afraid of wind... 10mph winds will ground quite a few guys at our club. I just don't get it.

My opinion - if you aren't a confident enough pilot to maiden your own giant scale planes, don't buy them! If a guy needs me to maiden a stick or trainer, fine, I get it.

Here's a good one for you. I'd gladly maiden someone else's plane with no problem but I won't maiden mine. Don't know why but I get a nervous wreck the first time I fly one of mine. LOL

i have seen a many maiden wreaked by others. I have always maiden my own excpet for my 1st 2 planes. Face it there are flyers who can buy the bird but cannot fly it well, even after the maiden has been accomplised by someone else. I call it different strokes for different folks. Lots of us feel we can fly well but maybe you will change you mind once you see me or other fly

I'm gonna need unedited video with at least 10 witnesses signing an oath that it was you flying to comment on this.

Just kidding, I've seen a few of your video's, but you still can't maiden my planes lol.

mflander,

we could do like my buddy does. When he brings his plane to the field for the maiden we still need to do at least the following:

set throws
plug in servos
balance
figure out what to do wth these left over parts

Yes, I always maiden my own planes. If it's gonna crash, I want to do the crashing.

Of course, I have my buddy at the field check over everthing to make sure I didn't forget something, throws, range check, etc. He also spots for me on the maiden flight, in case something major goes wrong or I need help with trimming, etc.

I maiden my stuff but one thing I try to do is fly the plane or heli on a different day than I finish it. That gives me a chance to clear my head of the building issues and focus on the flying and setup issues. Getting in a rush to fly something new (or anything for that matter) is a good way to get into trouble.
