That is just wrong.

APPLAUSE!!

Amen, If you cant fly your own creation, get a trainer and learn again.. I really love it when people that have flown for years, cant even trim their plane themselves in the air.

So does that mean if you're a great builder and an okay flyer, you should risk it all to fly that $20k jet you just put together? Or have someone who is a master at the controls take a stab at it just in case it dead sticks?

I maiden my jets as well, if you cant fly what you build, build something you can handle until your ready.. Its like a noob buying a 40% for a second plane...

If I had a dollar for every time I saw Bill Hempel fly someone else's money pit jet...... I'd have a new plane. Seems we have a lot of cash money ballers here in Tucson that maybe don't have the reflexes to fly what they bought/built. I've only seen one guy actually fly his plane, of course that was after Bill took it up, trimmed it, let the guy fly, then landed it.

I always maiden my airplanes. I have had several others ask me to maiden theirs for them, just in case something were to go wrong, they could have a better pilot on the sticks to save it. My buddy recently gave me his 40% Extra to maiden for him, and his idealogy behind it all is "that if a good pilot is on the sticks and it happens to him, then it would happen to me too, and I'd rather have a more experienced pilot on the sticks."

I maiden my planes, and thats me. If you don't feel comfortable maidening yours, or dont think your ready for it, have someone more experieneced do it for you.

Seth

I have maidened all of my planes except my first Mustang PTS trainer. I get a kick out of the rush of first flights..its kind of like that new car smell. I used to buy a new car almost every 6 months...and in 42 years have had one car longer than 1.5 years..(the one I am driving now). I am over the new car addiction since I have been in this hobby. I have the new plane addiction...I almost always have a new plane on the bench so I can be sure to maiden something every couple of months...Yes..it is a sickness...but I love it. I went from trainer to 35% aircraft in 3 months...so I jumped in big...Good thing I dont do crack...Id never be able to get off of it.

Well, since I didn't have the luxury of an instructor when I started in RC 14 years ago (I'm 24 now... that's scary), I taught myself to fly and have never had another person maiden one of my planes. I prefer to do it myself; that way, if something goes wrong, the blame is either on me or my equipment, and I won't be wondering if somebody else screwed up.

I've had maybe 50-55 planes so far in my life, and have maidened them all myself. I enjoy it... it's a bonding experience

I also have several guys at the club who regularly ask me to maiden planes for them, so I guess I'm doing something right... and gaining a reputation, lol. In fact, I maidened an Eflite Mini Edge this weekend, then the same guy had me maiden his scratch-built 1/4 scale Extra later that day.

I try to help out where I can (at least they think so... I just want to fly everything I get my hands on, in reality ).

I don't like people to fly my plane and I dont like to fly theirs. My dad has a saying... I crash I cry, You crash you buy. Just better to stay away from other peoples planes if you ask me. The VERY few planes I have flown of other peoples, I check the plane myself before anything.
