I know this is early but, plans need to be made to see if this is once again a doable thing. Last year for the 2007 Shootout, Tom Arnold ( twostroke here on FG ) gratiously offered to transport planes to Tucson for guys who were going, the charge for taking them was only to cover fuel expense and that was all. He is once again thinking about making this venture for all whom would be going to Tucson that would be shipping a plane. Here are the details... 4,000 miles round trip, 6mpg figured at what the current going rate at that time for diesel fuel, that will give a total cost for fuel, divide that by the number of planes he is hauling and that would be the charge to get your plane there AND back home. If a plane is only being shipped one way, that can be discussed and figured accordingly. The more planes he hauls the less expensive it would be on everyone. There were several from the NC region last year that got Tom to take thier planes out there and everyone was very pleased and have spoken to him about taking their plane/planes again this year. The trailer will be at the field and can be used for storage by the pilots who pay to take their planes out, so you wouldnt have to worry about taking them somewhere else every night. This is a tentive plan and he needs to see how many would be interested to see if this would be a cost effective thing for everyone. If you are planning on making the trip to Tucson and need your plane transported, please reply so we can get a good idea of the number of people and planes that would be shipped. In responding, please include the number of planes you intend on shipping. Last edited by Dan_nO; 06-19-2008 at 08:28 PM. |

Thanks Tom for trying to help us out again this year! You did a great job last year getting my planes to Tucson. I will be interested in having 1 or possibly 2 planes delivered by you this year if there is sufficient interest from others to make it cost effective.

Hey Kurt, thanks for responding. I am trying to help Tom out a bit here in starting this to help him keep up with things this year as he is out on the road a lot. If anyone else is interested that you know of please let us know, the sooner we can get an idea the easier it will be to plan this all out and not be a last minute thing and we can all plan accordingly. Thanks, Danny |

How many planes went and what did it end up roughly costing each last year, or better still in light of higher fuel costs, what's the guesstimate for this year based on current prices? Where is the "load 'em up point?" Rick |

Good morning fella's. I dont remember an exact count from last as to planes, there were a few planes that went out that didnt come back due to them being sold, all of that was figured from the get go. What Tom did last year, its 4,000 miles round trip, he figured what the mpg his truck got and divided 4000 by that, that gives you how many gallons of fuel it will take, multiply the gallons of fuel times the going price and that gives you a total dollar amount, then divide that by the number of guys who had planes shipped and thats what everyone paid. It came out to 500 dollars a piece with, piece of mind that when they got there and unloaded their plane that it was going to be in one piece and not damaged. Of course keep in mind that fuel is a lot more this year so thats going to play a big factor here, so the more that get on board the less it will be for everyone. That is why we have started early this year with this so that we can see if its a doable thing or not and maybe get a few more to take this year. Will have to wait and see but we have a start. There have been 2 or 3 others that have also mentioned interest in this so the more the better it is for everyone. As to a pickup point, some of the guys met Tom at his house and loaded from there. The NC Regional contest, there was a couple of planes that were brought and picked up there. Tom owns and oeprates his own 18 wheeler for a living, he said that with where he travels "IF" it was a place to where he could meet someone to pick up a plane the details could be worked out for that also, that would be something that someone would have to talk to Tom personally about. |
