Chevy Suburban question

Considering it's the size of a water buffalo and my wife can get the kids and everything else she takes to Florida in it Beverly Hillbilly style, I'm not complaining. As a matter of fact, in our search for a replacement vehicle she keeps coming back to Suburbans. It's the ultimate rolling storage unit to her!

I'll live with the high gas prices for as long as I can possibly afford too. The value of all that extra metal around my family in an accident is priceless.

No arguments here. Suburbans are the only way to go.

I have a trailer, but if it is just me and the plane, I toss it in the back.

I have three kids as well. I don't know how people make it without!

Just filled my wife's Suburban up so she can go to Nashville to see her sister. I have the last body style that has a 42 gallon tank and it took 38 to fill it up. At $2.62 a gallon it cost me exactly $100.00. That's the most I've ever spent on a tank full of gas! I guess I upped the resale value for a day or two.

Anyone have pics of a 40%er fitting in a Suburban? I have a 99 Suburban and my 35% Edge fits easily with stabs on but I'm curious how much workit would be to put a 40%er in a Suburban. I'm guessing not too hard if you remove the stabs.

I don't think I have a picture handy, but lets use a Carden Extra or Comp-Arf 3M for my example.

With the stabs off, put it in tail first. I put the left main towards the right wall and run the rudder up just short of the front seats. Go to the passenger side front door and lift the tailwheel up and over the folded second row seats and nestle the tailwheel in the gap the second row seat bottoms create. It holds it in position for the most part, but I bungee one main gear leg as well.

Slide the wings down the left side and secure from the top with a bungee. The stabs fit real nice between the wings and window. There is room for a toolbox, radio case, ez-up, bags, and cooler.

I took an extra tow hitch, removed the ball, and bolted a piece of aluminum roughly the size of my gas tank. I bungee the tank to the plate and slide it in the hitch, keeping the fumes out of the truck. You can also put a plug in the vent line, but make sure and release the pressure if you are driving into warmer climates. It is possible to push the stopper out of the tank.

This works well and the tail is not so far up to hinder vision or conversation. I also hauled around a J-Tec Extra this way (big!), but decided to remove the rudder for the long haul to talk with my passenger. To the field and back no biggie.

heres a suggestion i own a ford excursion a 43% plane fits in it easily and so does 140 bucks to fill the tank (44gal) my friend just bought a chrysler town and country with the new stow and go seats that fold into the floor its a great vehicle easily fits a 40% plane right down the middle between the front seats the nice thing is you dont have to take the seats out they store right in the floor its a dual pourpose vehicle great for modelling and good for the family when u need it and best of all it gets better than 22mpg if i wouldnt take such a loss on my excursion id trade it in on one, my opinion its the cheapest way to go and no where near the price of an SUV
