Trailer Question... attaching D-Rings

I got my trailer yesterday... a Wells Cargo 5x10 V-nose... shold work just fine for me and it tows great behind the mini-van!!!

Anyway, I want to attach D-rings to the walls to strap things like chairs and tents etc down. I am going to drill through the ply and the steel hat posts underneath. What are the best screws to use for this? Should I drill and tap the steel for machine screws or should I just use self tapping sheet-metal screws?

Self tapping sheet metal screws work good if you get them into the posts. Just make sure that they aren't too long! Ask me how I know.
