I felt like a kid on Christmas Eve in aniticipation of this years Joe Nall. However, upon my arrival, things did not go exactly as I had envisioned. On my first flight Tuesday morning, a receiver crystal fell out of my 40% Yak during a knife edge spin and although my friend Tank did everything he could to save it, the full down elevator and right rudder placed it "somewhere" about 300 feet out in the Joe Nall woods. My surprise suddenly led to the reality that I may not only have crashed my airframe, but in fact may never see my DA 150 or any of my radio equipment again. Before I could even think about what to do next, Tony Russo, Tom Moser, Jim Cyr, Jason Reddish, John Banks, Lou Carpio, Bernie, Elie, and a few others who's names I do not know had exchanged cell phone numbers, rounded up a couple of quads, and headed of into thick woods on a search and rescue mission for my airplane as if it were their own. Within a half hour, I received a phone call from Tony saying "we have it" and a call to Tom had him out there with his Quad in minutes. I got everything back in good shape with a surprising minimal amount of damage to the airframe and no damage to any components with the exception of a prop. I can not thank these people enough as it is this type of thing that makes this hobby what it is. Although I was planeless the rest of the week, I still had an awesome time at this years Nall. It is always great to see so many old friends and make so many new ones. Again, thanks to everyone for making each years Joe Nall better than the last. Craig |

Craig, you can't imagine how relieved I was to hear that Jim C and Tony had found it. As far out as it was, I was definetly concerned about finding it at all. I think the pine tree is slid down took more of a beating that that airframe did. Easily repairable in just a couple hours! And people think flat spin landings at full power are hard on airframes! I guess that one proved them wrong!

BTW, the pics in the "Nall photo flood" thread of me flying with you right behind me, is just moments before the chaos began... Only reason I say that, is because Im not flying with a strap in that pic... the only time I did that during the Nall. Its like my saftey blanket!

cbk07, I am glad things turned out as well as they did ( Thanks to good friends when in need), WE didn't get to Nall untill late Thursday and we stopped by to say Hello to all at the A.M. tent. I have to say that you guys rock, I don't know if I would be as upbeat as you were after a challanging morning such as that but you were all friendly and informative. Thumbtwister and I were happy to meet you guys and look forward to seeing everyone next year.

Most of the damage that you saw was from the plane falling off the quad during the rescue.
