Default hauling the family and a 40%er

Has anyone had any experience transporting there family and aircraft in a rental van ? I sold my SUV due to gas prices and that darn payment every month.. Me,my wife and two boys cant fit into my regular cab pickup. The solution is to sell my pickup and buy the Toyota Tacoma 4 door im drooling over, But the budget wont allow that right now. Im thinking about renting a passenger van. Anyone ever done this ? I the ideal situation would be to rent somthing that I could tow with but I know that out of the question..

many people use vans to haul around their 40's....most of the time though they take out all of the seats or fold them into the floor so no passengers in the van other than up front...that is with the minivans that I have seen

could possibly get away with a full size van with captains chairs in it and slide the fuse all the way up through them....would have to measure the seat gap..

Yep. Own one.

Chevy 2500 Express Van extended 15 pass version.

3 of the 4 seats removed will haul the family of 4 or 5 with a 40%er in the back, stabs on, wings under the fuse, with extra room for small cooler, couple of foamies, flight gear, etc. Build a rack and take a couple of other smaller planes in there, too.

6.0 V8 sucks the juice pretty hard. Only about 16 mpg and it goes a tad under 10 with the trailer.

Not that I am, however if I were to buy another one, I would do the Duramaxx instead of the gas.

That Dodge/Benz Sprinter van would be the ticket.

You can rent a 15 pass van from several places. The seat come out easy.

Easy. Get a trailer. Plenty of room for the family and your plane says nice and cool with you in the van.

Already have one... The wife now has a Honda Accord so towing is out of the question. Four cant fit into my pickup ( GMC Sierra reg cab). 99% of the time my oldest son would ride with my flying buddy Gill in his rig. I was just looking for a backup plan if it was just my family and one vehicle...

Thanks for the input ...

If you value your sanity I wouldn't recommend the Sprinter van. We had one that was converted into an Ambulance. They run great, get good fuel mileage, but, they were designed as a cargo or delivery van. You will feel every bump in the road, the wind will blow you all over the place, and they have so little insulation that the road noise will drive you off the deep end in about 10 miles. Now remember this is just one persons opinion, but I'm glad that the one we had is on a slow boat to Russia right now.

I found mine used and they are no longer being made but sometimes you can see them up for sale....There is another guy making similar ones but I think they are only 4'x8'. I have thought about trying to make a 12' version. I have two uncles that own sheet metal/metal fab companies. Paint booths and such for companies. Might have to talk it over with him in front of a 30 pack.
