Hey all. This is an old debate, but I was interested in seeing the current preferences of the hucker's segment. I have recently discovered the beauty of JR with my birthday present, a shiny new JR XP9303. But, I still see debate rage, mainly between Futaba and JR. I see Chip Hyde is now endorsing Airtronics. Curiosity has be wondering, as I'm sure others will too. I fly with the High Desert Outlaws quite freqently, and most of those amazing huckers are flying JR, which drove my desire to go that way. Anyway, vote and tell us why you like it so much, and, if you would, tell us what past platforms you favored and what is better with your new prefernce. Since most of the Giants are into BIG stuff, I have a higher regard for your preferences.

I fly Futaba mainly cause thats what I'm used to. I finally learned my 9Z and don't feel like learning a new radio. Even though the new 14mz is supposed to be really easy to program, I still don't use all the functions on the 9Z. I think it just boils down to personal preference.

9303 is definitely the best bang for the buck...

JR all the way. They look great, easy to use and usually well priced...

Hands down the 14MZ is the easiest to program, most powerful and flexible radio ever made. Add in the solid state channel changing (now little dials or anything) and the fact that Futaba gives you all three aircraft types (airplanes, helicopters AND gliders) in their top end radio, and I can't see what is missing. I like the 9303 I have as well. But it fascinates me that JR can do such a wonderful job with their sub-premium radio while sticking to single use programming (airplane OR helicopter ONLY, gliders only if you want to REALLY work at it) in their top of the line radio. I suspect that they will change that when their 14MZ killer hits the market. Plus I can't wait to see the first full function top end radio using spread spectrum technology. THAT is the future!!! |

Yea, there is a Synthesized Tx/Rx upgrade setup available for the 9303. Not as cool as the integrated synthesizer like the 14MZ, true. I saw a thread or article somewhere that suggested there is a possibility there will eventually be Spread-Spectrum plug-in modules for most high-end radios once the range limitations are improved. Sounded like there will be an upgrade path, I hope so. I agree, SS will be the future in one form or another. It's early, so don't be suprised if SS morphs a bit to become mainstream. SS has a ways to go to suit big stuff, range and line-of-sight issues are a weakness still there from what I read. I think the 14MZ is very cool, but for over $2k, not im my budget, ouch!

I fly JR becuase it's what alot of my club members fly and all my servos are hitec and JR, so i'm gonna stick with JR for compatability issues...and I do like how they feel compared to the Futaba. If somebody new to the hobby asks me what they should buy, I suggest to get either Futaba or JR (becuase they are so popular and more people would be able to offer assistance alot easier) and pick whatever one they can get the best deal on. They're both really good systems. As has been said, personal preferance plays a huge roll.

The 9303 is newer than the 10X and they have not gone back and upgraded the software for the 10X (they should have a while ago in my opinion).
