At todays glow fuel prices, say about 15 bucks a gallon, that would make an electric mighty attractive.

I think he is lying. It would be a little easier to swallow if he said he was burning around 100 to 150 gallons a year.

All joking aside it is very doable, and that is actually a reasonable amount of fuel for a serious pattern pilot to go through in a season. I wish I could say the same, but since my wife and I had our first child last November, I have almost burned 1 1/2 gallons of fuel to date this year. My goal this season is 2 gallons. Maybe if I give some fuel away I just might be able to pull it off. Usually I have gone through 15 gallons by now. The truth is, I would rather spend time with my son than fly right now. The planes will always be there.

The thing is, I know it's doable, but back when he was flying, he said he'd only get about 4 flights/day on the weekends...that just doesn't add up around here. I just think he's exaggerating and we're trying to catch him on it. I figure 4 flights/day...16 oz(If he lands dead stick) per flight...that's 8 tanks per gallon. So it's about a gallon/week. And trust me, in Chicago, you can't fly EVERY WEEKEND. I just think it's funny cuz most of us around here go thru about 2 cases/year and we fly just about every day after work AND the weekends... I just think it's funny and thought I'd get some other opinions...

I would say its possible but not probable especially in a northern state. I would believe it more if it were a 1.20-1.60 sized patern plane, those you could definately kill off a gallon a day per person.
