Hello guys, in my new WM Katana 36% (former AW model) the elevator halves have 1 bolt each, threading into the stab tube, that is full with wood. im a little concerened about this bolt possibly loosening up from vibration. any tips on how to make sure its in ? i take the stab off every time i finish flying in order to fit the plane into my car. thanks. |

The tube you are referring to is very thin. The tube has been reinforced with with a harder wood such as poplar. Use a drill size to suit tap size...drill and then tap hole....tap must go into wood full length of machine screw that us used. I prefer to go at least to half depth. Occasionally, place a drop of CA in hole( when off of plane) to strenthen the tap threads. Use a drop of locktight on machine screw and let dry before inserting screw. Chase the machine screw thread with a die.....the die will leave a small amount of loctight on thread..just enough to assure a good fit and maintain in place. Eventually you will enlargen the hole too much...so just rotate the tube a quarter turn and begin the process all over...hope this helps..., V. |
