Glen,

Just a few thoughts on your Pario. Will you be moving the gear legs so that they attach below the gear plate? Dave Guerin built Matt Ware a deluxe Brio with the standard gear and I believe the gear attached above the gear plate and on the fourth flight the gear folded on a rather smooth landing.

Also, how are you mounting your canopy- via the standard one screw at the front? Also, I see the gray material around the flanges of the canopy and at the rear. Would that happen to be filler? My canopy doesn't have that good a fit at all.

Thanks!

Ryan,

I am aware of the “Guerin mods” he makes to the gear plate. I chose to use the OE gear placement and mounting method however have added extra support.

Yep that’s filler this was one of the standard kits Piedmont liquidated at reduced prices, the fit and finish is not as good as the earlier released kits to the market. The chin cowl and canopy areas required some work. Canopy is secured using two screws on the canopy sides about a 3rd way back from the front in addition to the two OE dowel pins. This makes for a tight/snug fit and reduces chaffing that can manifest itself as annoying airframe noise.

Here are my F3A models for 2007, both by Oxai, a Pinnacle and an Astral XXc. I maidened the Astral yesterday (2 brief flights to get the feel of things), then 6 flights today. She's trimming out nicely, and flies beautifully.
The Pinnacle weighs 4.75kg, the Astral 4.45kg (very happy about that!).
Both are powered by YS160DZ's, Futaba rx's with JR servos.
Our local season (Victoria, Australia) kicks off at the start of Feb, should be a great season!

I'll have a Brio for next year. Still haven't decided on whether to go with the AXI/F3A or the Hacker A60. Does anyone know from experience if the 2oz saved by going with the A60 is worth it, or should I just stick with the AXI?

I have an Oxai Beryll that just took to the air and it flies beautifully. Needs a few little things polished up but I'm loving it. Hoping to do well in FAI this year with it

marlo, is the Astral XXc the Oxai version of the Naruke XX Plus, or something totally different altogether?

Hi Ryan, I'm not sure about the Naruke XX Plus, but my understanding is that Oxai are making the Astral under an agreement with Naruke ("Team Naruke Hobby" painted on the fin), and the additional "X" from an Astral X means it has anhedral stabs. I could be completely wrong though...
In 2004 we held the CAOCC event on the Sunshine Coast, and I had the opportunity to see Onda fly the Astral X. The Oxai Astral XXc only differs in that the original had a clear canopy, and conventional stabs. Even the colour scheme is identical.
