Its your plane though so its your decision.

Matt, no offense, butyou really have no idea what your talking about if you think that a T canalizer doesn't effect the plane. Plus, winglets do not affect rotational prop flow, where as the T canalizer does.
Thanks,
Jim

This was a nice weekend. Woke up 1/2 hung over Saturday, started painting around 11:30 am, finished colors 8 hrs later. Woke up 0730 Sunday, went and fly my Dalton Extra 300 DA170, Greve pipe combination on the Mezjlick 30x12 prop!!! Man - that thing moves awesome. Came home, constructed my new painting stand ($25.00 in stuff from Home Depot), then painted clear.

The Nason clear (dupont stuff) says to mix it 4 parts clear to 1 part activator, and indicates no reducer. For the chinny, I used a 4/1/1 mixture and did add 1 part reducer anyways. For the fuselage and canopy, I used a 4/1/2 -2 parts reducer. The rotisery thing made the fuselage much easier to shoot and then roll into the garage for curing. At this point, the whole this is wet-out nicely.

Thanks,
Jim

BAM! Looks killer Jim.

You did the right thing with the 4:1 Nason Clear. It doesn't say anytning about reducer on the bottle, but it will flow out better with 1 part reducer with the correct temp hardner.

Now your covering will look dull.

Well I did not mean to say that it contributed to no flight characteristics whatsoever, but what I mean to say was you really do not need one on this plane. I know that they help with things but me and Nat's stand on it is that it is just another weight adder.

Sorry,

Regards,

Matt

Thanks Matt. Cameron mentioned to use some reducer too so I went ahead and did so. Believe it or not, the fuselage was a "one-coat" job too!!!

Matt - the T-canalizer, or even just a dorsal fin, changes the yaw dynamics of the plane, and basically adds positive pitching moment with rudder. I have experimented and verified this on three totally different planes. On all three planes, the rudder response was improved noticeably. In all truth, I have heard a range of mix numbers required to fly the Pass Port. I am hoping I start off on the low side of things. If I see a hard pull to the gear in knife edge, I'll add the T as I have an internal mount ready for it. What mix numbers are you seeing?
Thanks,
Jim

Thanks Don -

Heres the fun part. As photoed the plane includes the fuselage, canopy, chin cowl, and landing gear: 2 lbs 15.5 oz!!!!!

Fuse assembly - 2 lbs 15.5 oz
YS setup 3 lbs
Stabs with servos and long leads 11 oz
Wings 15 oz each RTF (2 lbs for easy math)
Tank 3 oz
Radio bay electronics (11 oz)
axles, wheels, pants (4 oz)
Rudder (3 oz monocoted)

The plane will come very close to 10 lbs +/- a bit.

Thanks,
Jim

Thanks guys,

Rigging a pattern plane is so much faster than rigging an IMAC plane. At this point, the engine is mounted RTF, throttle servo set, only need to cut my CF spinner. Switches and charge jack are mounted, rudder servo in, stabs and servos are in an set. I'll work on it a bit more tonight and get my Dalton 300 in the car for some practice after work tomorrow, weather permitting.

Major things left to do:
Paint wheel pants
Monocote wings & rudder
Hinge Rudde/rig-up
Set stab incidence
Install tank
Final install of receiver and battery

that about covers it.
Thanks,
Jim

Looking great Jim. Looks like you'll have it done before the Jax contest. I might see ya up there, my arm is being twisted... If not, good luck there and keep us posted on the PP.
Did you make templates for all the formers? If so, could you trace them all on to paper and bring it to Tangerine?
