Question Power Setups (heli)

Hey Guys,

I'm starting this thread with the hopes of discussing the various options available for powering the electronics in our choppers. Right now I am using a 2200mah nicad in my Freya which runs a 611 gyro (S9256 servo), GV-1 governor, three S9252's, and one S9350. I've only been able to get two flights per charge so I am thinking about changing the setup.

However, just about all the servos I mentioned are not recommended for 6v usage, which means depending on which route I take with the power I may need to replace them.

Thoughts? Suggestions? How do you have your rigs setup?

I have a R30 with 8231's and a 401+9252 combo. I power it with a 4800 FROMECO square pack and a standard FROMECO reg (its what I had laying around) I flew 5 flights on Friday and another 10 on Saturday and 1 more on Sunday. I never charged and only put 1600 mah back in the pack.

My buddy is getting similiar results with the DURALITE reg and pack. I see more and more guys running the 3000 flightpower lipoly pack and the split voltage regs with even better results.

Dump the nicads ASAP,

GMONEY

Just finished charging the R50 three flight over the last three days with a 4800 FROMECO flat pack 8411's and the 401+9252 combo 407 mah back in the pack.. That pack is at least three years old.ECurel R50.jpg

R50 and FROMECO tucked nicely in this fuse..

Check your setup for binding. You should get more than 2 flights out of that pack.
What are you using for your stop flying criteria?
Do you have an onboard battery monitor?

No binding, After two flights the voltage drops to about 4.5v . Admittedly the pack is getting old and even though I cycle it regularly it probably isn't holding the charge like it used to - hence the need to update my power system. I figure now is as good a time as any .

I would go with fromeco for sure I run a 5200 with pretty much your same set up and I can put at least 10 hard 3D flights on 1 charge.

Have you ever cycled the pack to see what its capacity is?

My setup is very close to yours.
3 - 9252
1 - 9254 Throttle
GV-1
601

I can burn a gallon of fuel thru a 50 on a single charge with no worry and my battery is 2 years old. I am running a 4200mAh pack from MAH and am using the MAH regulator at 5.3 volts.

I typically pull around 350mAh from the pack per flight.

I cycle the battery regularly, but never really checked to see where its at. The battery is three years old and has been used a lot during those three years. Next time I cycle it I'll take a closer look at what its doing.

At this point I'm thinking of going with the Arizona regulator and the 5200mah battery. I already have the charging gear for my plane so it seems like a no brainer. I figure I can set the regulator at 5v and the servos I have should be fine.

I love the FROMECO ARIZONA setup... Its all I use now. Very easy to setup, bullett proof, and not to mention its got cool blue LED's on it you can zone on at night...
