| Sleepy's step and fetch ![]() | Its a crankshaft thing that causes the bearings to go bad on the hyper. The crank has a webbing off the back side of the counter weight on the crank. This is the only OS motor that does this I believe. If you remove this webbing the problem goes away. It takes a dremel, and about 1/2 our of your time. the problem is the bearings dont get enough oil, and the little bit they do get is sitting after it runs because the web wont allow it to drain off. The oil sits on the bearings, and being contaminated with the methanol base of the fuel causes "HYDROPHELIA" to take over... IE Water being attracted to the evaporating methanol. This causes rust, and rust causes failure. When you remove that web, it allows the fuel to drain off, and also increases oiling during the running of the engine. OVER all the HYPER I believe is still one of the, if not the best bang for your buck in the 50 market. Full of power, and reliable as all get out. I can handle a bearing replacement twice a year if need be. Heck the RC car guys replace bearings after every 8 tanks, or at least the race guys do.

| Flyin' Around ![]() | O.S. has to know. So being that they are the most popular 50 class engine on the market why don't they fix it. Maybe all of us have to start sending in are engines. I heard that tt is coming out with a new engine. It's going to be a RL 53 or something like that. So maybe it has more power and less problems. Last edited by alexz : 01-22-2008 at 11:31 AM. |

| Sleepy's step and fetch ![]() | yea.. very easy... take a cutoff wheel, and cut several vertical relief cuts in the web. Than take as much off as you can with the cut off wheel. finish the rest off with a good grinding wheel, but dont get into the counter weight... only flush with it... This is the part that takes the time to get it right. Slower is better.

| Multi Platform Pilot ![]() | Don't bother, the crank web mod isn't a fix for the bearing problem. Some of them go in a gallon, some last forever. I've tried ceramics, crank web mods, after run oil, no after run oil, running dry, letting it sit with fuel in it, it doesn't matter. The only thing the crank web does is void your warranty. I believe that the rear bearing is under spec'd for the power this thing produces. The YS uses the same bearing and I'll be pleasantly surprised if the Red Line has a different one because the TT 50 uses the same rear bearing as the OS, though it doesn't put out anywhere near the power because of the smaller throat and crappy carb.
