Default Heli freindly clubs.

I here a lot of not so nice discrimination towards heli's, but I can't believe it's that bad. There are some local clubs that are not pro heli around me, but those clubs are more anti everything weather it be giant scale, 3d flying, jets, and anyone under 50. My club is very laid back and there is a great feeling of everyone's welcome. This seems to be the case with smaller clubs, and the larger ones seem to be where the problems are especially if they have to share the same fly zone. I'm curious to see what everyones take is on this issue.

I like the summary given in another thread.

It's not the small clubs that have problems, and its not the huge clubs that get into bickering...its the inbetween ones. Usually the small/new clubs are all friends who have similar interests, and the really big organizations have formed subcategories similar to the small clubs with each interest group having a fair presence. Its when you have a medium sized club where only one or two have ventured into helis, jets, giant scale etc that you get problems.

my club is a small one.. we deal with all sorts of rc,, from sclae flying to 3d... to gas boats and sailboats... we also goof around withthe lil flying toys... i went to a nother local site once and i pulled out my combat wing.. and everyone was like WTF is this guy thinking.... i say we are all inthis for the same reason... fun.... and if you cant deal with flying inthe same airspace with planes that cost less then some servos... well oh well.. atleast i show my respect when some one flys a big plane i just sit behind my camera waiting....

Unfortunately my club is one of those "not so heli friendly clubs". They spend more time making up rules on what heli's are not allowed to do than anything else!

Heli's are not allowed to fly off of the main field (which is a beautiful field btw), instead we are asked to fly off of a small, tree lined field towards the back of the runway. This area is only good for hovering as any forward flight is very tight. Not that that stops me flying off of the main field....when there is nobody there! (which is rare!)

One of my clubs doesn't care who you are or what you fly as long as you do it safely. In my other club the airplane guys/heli guys/younger guys all get along great unless you put them all together and make them make a decision.

well all i can say is when i was flying helis. (over 10 years) i never went to a field that was heli freindly. every field i went to hated them. we allways had to find fields that we could get in a few flights before we were run off. it really sucked. i allways said the plane pilots really liked them but, they wouldnt stoop so low as to learn all over again just as everyone that flys helis knows. they figured that since they have been flying for 10 to 20 years they could just jump on one and fly. guess what it dosent work that way. so after destroying 500 to 1000 bucks they said lets ban them so we don have to see em, and remind us that we cant do it. but now helis are everywhere and most places will let them but, iam shure they dont give in so easy unless one or 2 of the officers get the bug then its ok. i really hate to sound so negitave, but thats life, i dont agree with it but i do accept it. oh by the way i dont fly helis anymore. after over 10 years of trying to share the same air i gave up trying. now i only fly planes. i miss the helis but i cant afford both. my pockets arent as deep as they used to be

after reading the last few post, its hard to beleave anyone in the hobby would be such a prick to ban a type of rc from a flying field just becasue they cant fly it them self... as for haven a 'heli airsapce' its not a bad idea.. if you give them the same space or similar... the fact that a fast fixed wing flyby cant be done when there a heli inthe way,, and the other way around.. we at teh HCRCM welcome any type to fly with us

That's super lame

Forward flight is forward flight, no matter what you fly. We have no problems here at our field, Most guy's will give heli guy's the hole field so they can watch.

Ive heard negative comments from old guys in our club about helis and giant scale planes... and 3D?? Maaaaan dont even think about it. But its pretty much just noise. Ive learned not to listen. I dont fly helis but when the club members who do start theirs up, i usually get out of way and watch.

Ive been griped at for flying my plane too low inverted. I was the only pilot, and was on the far side of the runway. After i landed i asked what i did wrong. He said "You dont need to fly that low inverted". I said, why not? its my plane. His response was.. "we know you can do it, but we have young pilots out here who are learning. We dont want them to try to do it and crash their planes discouraging them."

I just shook my head and walked away.

Now im off the subject... Helis are cool. I get the hell out of the way so i can watch

If the club shares the same runway I give them the entire field so I can hide under a table! LOL.

Just kidding. I love watching, and I'm going to learn how to fly my dads Raptor this summer.
