Been in and around RC for more years than I really care to mention. Few years back I decided to make the transition to Heli's. After a couple of minor crashes with my 30 size Raptor, gave it up and chalked it up that I just could not do it. Jan of this year I bought a Blade CX 2 which really helped me with my major problem which was throttle managment. Got so comfortable with it I would fly it thru out he house and even hover over my cat just to watch her ears go back and the look of OK JUST A LITTLE CLOSER. Now I move up to a T-Rex which is a great flying heli (expect for certain conditions) and at same time I came across an older but solid JR Ergo Sport 60, that I put aside until skills caught up with confidence. T-Rex was a great learning tool, I did not attempt any thing close to what the Heli would do it got me where I wanted to go.( expect for certain conditions) Ok will fess up to CERTAIN CONDITIONS. I have been fighting and won a battle this year with cancer. Back in May Dr. called and wanted me to go in for Cardiac Scan because of concerns about heart blockage. Now I go in about 6:00 am for test, about 8:00 pm I get to come home. Still slightly under influnce of medications I decided I could hover my T-Rex in the den. Under normal conditions I can do this, (yea you know what's coming next) After sticking the antenna into the blades and having the blades walk up my leg, wife takes me by hand and puts me to bed. Then next week while in hospital recovering from cancer surgery tried to explain to surgeon why I have cuts up my shin. Ok fast forward to last three weeks. Pulled out the Ergo Sport and found out that Big is really better for flying Heli's also. Took the Ergo to field Sunday and had our local EXPERT go thru setup and only a couple of minor adjustment it was flying great. When I brought it in the house Sunday night I noticed one of the linkages was disconnected but attributed it to my mishandleing while bring it in. Today with the ERGO fine tuned I go out in the back ( 2 acres wide open space). Hovering and actually manuvering enough that I felt I was in total control, come around and slowly start to set it down and about 1 to 2 ft off the ground it went wild. Sure am glad those carbon Fiber blades hit the tail boom and not my leg
. Didn't know that a helicopter could be in so many pieces. Upon exmaining the carnage found the linkage that I had resnapped in place was dangling. Bad luck = No don't think so - just got me wanting a new one. Had to share this hopefully it will give everone a grin.
