It looks to me like parts from a GMP cricket placed on a home built set of frames. I would think it IS GMP of some sort. No way is it an old Schluter. Post a picture of the tail gearbox if you can. HA...WHILE EDITING THIS POST IT CAME TO ME.....GMP REBEL IS WHAT THEY CALLED THIS ONE. It was kind of an updated cricket.

The "frame" is nothing but a 1/8 th in. piece of flat metal with everything else bolted to it !

No doubt about it. It's a rebel. I just had to scratch my AZZ in the right spot to get the old brain cells to give up the name. The tailbox was GMP's knock off of an old hirobo unit if I remember it right.

You're right. After checking out the GMP site you gave it has to be a Rebel. From what I can see on the site it is identical from foward of the engine back and down. Just a slab of metal with everthing bolted to the sides. Mine has a different cutaway in the canopy area though and looking at it it was factory stamped out with dies and folded. All the parts match the Rebel even most of the frame.
Maybe there was a later/earlier design on the frame ?

Either way we have a winner ! Maybe one day I'll be nuts enough to try and fly it. Or just bounce it around the back yard !

Thanks guys, it has been a fun one for me.

Haaaaaaaaaa What a co-incidence.

I had a guy roll into my shop the other day with a grin like a cheshire cat. Man was he proud that he had just picked up his first heli and its exactly what you have in that photo. I need to get it to photograph it again.

This one runs and has the old wind up electric gyro, very very vintage.

He fired it up to fly it and I hit the road running. The darned thing looks like it ready to kill someone and I wanted nothing to do with it.

Fixed pitch, ASP engine, its real piece of history.

Well I braved up enough to try and fly it but the tail rotor linkage was up the pooh bonza and there was no way to hold a heading so it never launched but tell you what its a scary bit of gear to try and fly.

I'm sure that a lot of test pilots wives said the same thing ! I got the chopper from a friend for lunch. He is not nor ever will be interested in RC. He aquired it because I was.

Truth is I most likely will not fly it. But I see no reason not to if reconditioned to original state.

Remember, there was competition with these designs at one time. I still see no reason to "hide under a shelter" because vintage designs are being flown. I've had that said about PPM radios on this site.

From what I've gathered (since starting this thread) it is an important piece of history as far as RC helicopters are concerned. I'll keep it. I may even recondition it (if possible) just to have that piece.
