Mavacpjm, I've flown heli's for many years, but I don't remember a Excel cobra. Are you mixing up a Miniture Aircraft Xcell with a GMP Cobra? Just curious. Mike |

Maybe the GMP Cobra ? I've done quite a bit of research on vintage choppers since starting this thread. Thing is the Cobra had a "box" frame where this one (Rebel) and the Cricket had a single piece of metal down the middle.

My first helicopter was the cricket. I was 12 or 13 at the time. I still remember getting the box and wondering where the rest of it was. ![]() I flew a GMP Cobra for a few years. It was a good machine for the time. It must have been my 3rd of 4th helicopter. Also had the GMP Flybarless Legend. I wish I had kept that one. Funny thing, I was watching either discovery or the history channel a couple months back and I saw the guy I sold it to on one of those Extreme Machines shows. I'm pretty familiar with most of the older machines. I either owned or setup for someone just about every machine known to man in the 80's. Mike |

It is a GMP Rebel, the rotor head, as one piece polymer along with other parts, gave it away. I have the Rebel, in almost mint condition, except for dust. I also happen to have a few crickets. Regardless of what people say about these helis, they flew great for their time, provided you spent the time to set them up right. Of course, we are all so spoiled with todays technology, that flying an RC heli, by todays standards, is a joke! everyone can do it now. Try flying an RC helicopter back in the day! You should be able to get one flying better with todays electronics. Simple Fixed Pitch, make sure the rotor head does not have cracks on it. The polymer material GMP used on the Rebel is quite strong, but I would make sure it is still good, inspect for cracks , if it still flexes should be good, but I would reinforce it with two plates of fiberglass 1/32" thick top and bottom, just in case. The mechanics should still work. There are guys bringing back vintage helis like the Mini Boy, I am one of them, but I design original RC helis, mainly. Check out You Tube.
