| Sleepy's step and fetch ![]() | I would say more economical to buy a kit, as they have all the bugs worked out in the engineering, and machining. To try and design, and build would just be a huge undertaking. These things are a trick to set up even when you take out the variables of parts, and machining. |

I didn't have any problem building my Raptor v2. If you can read an exploded parts diagram you won't have any problem. The real trick was setting it up. what they tell you in the manual is the 'right' way - but after talking to some local heli pros it might not be the best 'right' way. If that makes any sense. getting it together is a snap. Getting it to fly the way you want it can be a challange. It was for me anyway |

Are you asking if it is difficult to build a helicopter from a kit or to actually design one and build it? If it is the first, then the answer is no, it is not difficult. You will actually learn a lot about "how stuff works" when building a helicopter. I have been involved with the development of a new r/c helicopter a few years ago and it was a MAJOR undertaking. It isn't anything like an airplane kit where if something doesn't fit, it may be an inconvience and you can usually sand it to make it work. A single component that isn't right on a heli could and most likely will render it unflyable and useless. I am building a Hirobo Lepton now and it is amazing the detail they put in this little electric (between the size of the T-Rex and a 30 size glow machine). -Ryan

It depends on what you mean by "build". If you mean put together a kit vs. a heli that someone else assembled, It is not that hard to assemble a kit. If you are referring to designing a heli and then actually making your own parts, plane on several years of almost full time effort on your part and the need for the equivalent of an engineering degree to make it safe. |
